Regardless of its location, the quality of the food that you consume at Edo is always impeccable. Now that you are used to dining at Edo Club, a Japanese oasis set at the Sahara Golf Club in Kuwait that is well known for its Friday Buffet Lunches and Tuesday Jazz Nights, you can also enjoy yet another unforgettable experience at Edo On The Shore at the Sea View complex in Abu Halifa. With serene views of the glimmering Arabian Gulf coast, coupled with the welcoming staff and your favorite Japanese dishes, Edo On The Shore is set to be a new favorite for all of us regular ‘Edo-ers’ as well as nearby residents of the Fahaheel district.
The atmosphere at Edo On The Shore echoes with purist Zen. The pristine white high ceilings allow for a constant flood of natural light that calmly reflects off of the restaurant’s iconic red, black and white elements. You will notice the modular modern light fixtures, and the sleek black bar that showcases the finest cuts of fish that serve as a promise for a delicious dining experience. Edo On The Shore’s outside seating area is set in Sea View complex’s pier like façade, making al fresco dining a must this time of year. Still, with ample seating inside, you can enjoy this seaside rendition at any time of the year.
Start off your Edo experience with the delectable Chicken Yakitori, that delivers on the most delicate morsels of skewered chicken. For shrimp lovers it’s all about the Ebi Karami, flavored with a tangy hot sauce, and the Ebi Koumiyaki, bursting with sweet chili sauce and aromatic potherbs. We also tried the Okonomiyaki, a traditional Japanese seafood omelet, and it was full of fresh flavors—this is definitely our new favorite! We absolutely love Edo’s shrimp steamed dumplings, and we can’t get enough of this establishment’s freshest ingredients when it comes to seafood. The countless sushi platters ordered by this bazaar editor alone speak miles to the quality of the shrimp, salmon, tuna and practically all of Edo’s seafood offerings. For those of you who prefer Tofu, the marinated Tofu steak with Miso is not to be missed.
You’re never at a loss for hearty and wholesome dishes at Edo. If you’re looking for the perfect lunch, then the Donburi individual rice dishes will surely hit the spot. Whether you have it all to yourself, or share (we won’t judge you if you do), the Katsu Don will deliver you with your choice of either breaded beef or chicken, served over a generous helping of rice with eggs, mushrooms and onion. Mix it all up in the bowl, and revel in the pleasing medley of flavors and textures. For tempura fans, the Ten Don will steal your heart, if not simply for the expertly breaded shrimp tempura that comes with this dish! Every element of the Donburi dishes are prepared with flavor in mind, and are best enjoyed when you mix up all of the elements in the bowl (rice, vegetables, protein) with small sips of the accompanying soup in between bites. If your palate simply prefers noodles, then Negi Ramen with chicken, spring onions and noodles served in a hot pot will warm you right up! The Yaki Soba delivers on pan-fried Japanese egg noodles with both chicken and shrimp with fresh vegetables, and will have your taste buds dancing with joy! We also learned that Edo On The Shore will soon offer an additional six Korean dishes to their menu, bringing you more of the flavors that you could regularly enjoy when visiting Edo Club at the Sahara Kuwait Golf Club.
Our favorite Edo On The Shore selections also included the marinated and buttery soft Black Cod, slowly simmered in a delectable Miso sauce. The Sunomono with octopus, scallop and shrimp will ideally cleanse your palate, and prepare you for the perfect way to end your meal at the beachside rendition of Edo. You can’t dine here without ordering some sushi and sashimi, and as always, you know you’re in for a treat when it comes to their salmon and tuna selections. We love that the salmon is cut so close to the skin, allowing us diners to benefit from the healthiest part of this seafood delight.
When it comes to dessert, the expert chef at Edo On The Shore dazzled us with what could be best described as the perfect Mochi. A traditional Japanese rice cake usually served with a creamy filling, your childish side will be playfully pleased with the Mochi with vanilla bean home made ice cream that’s innocently sweet and creamy, and your adult palate will absolutely appreciate the wondrously infused green tea version that is prepared with Macha. We loved the Mochi here because it wasn’t at all overpowering, and while our sweet tooth was satisfied, we still didn’t forget the symphony of flavors that we earlier enjoyed at one of our favorite dining institutions in Kuwait.
