It is this personal touch where attention is paid to every last detail, coupled with the freshest hearty Italian flavors, that truly separates this pizzeria from its competitors.
Under the expert supervision of Chef Luigi, your experience at La Mamma will make you understand what cooking with passion truly tastes like. He modestly claims that pizza, whatever style it is served in, is comprised of the same basic ingredients: flour, water, yeast and salt. The star ingredient that’s usually never disclosed, is passion. Chef Luigi explained to our team how La Mamma’s approach to pizza is different to the other pizzerias. The pizza is actually left to cook a little while longer to allow for the flavors of the toppings to fully develop and to also ensure that the crust of the pizza is never burned. The end result is the perfect dough, beautifully prepared to accommodate the toppings of your choice. Gone are the days of soggy pizza crust!
From the starters or appropriately named Antipasti, we went by Chef Luigi’s recommendation of Beef Carpaccio with wild rocket salad, sundried tomatoes and a goat cheese sauce that perfectly complimented the tender slices of beef. We also tried the classic Bruschetta, and we reveled in the beautiful medley of tomato, red onion and pesto. What we love the most about La Mamma is the restaurant’s attention to constantly providing dinerswith new dishes through the daily specials, and the Pasta and Pizza combo is a popular choice that works perfectly for those dining on a budget.
Before we enjoyed the main event that is the pizza, Chef Luigi showered us with more attention, and glorious pasta. To our luck, the day’s special included homemade pumpkin puree ravioli with a flavorful pink sauce. The ravioli was cooked al dente, which is always perfection in our books! The menu at La Mamma boasts of classic Italian fare like the famous house Lasagna or Risotto Con Porcini.
When it comes to pizza, that’s where the fun started. We approached Chef Luigi as he expertly prepared the dough, tossing it and smoothing it out and then assembling the ingredients. He wanted us to try something other than the classic Margherita so we opted for the Pizza Diavola. Chef Luigi artfully placed the homemade tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, slices of spicy salami and parmesan cheese gratings, and carefully placed our pizza in the grand oven. We watch the embers glow in the oven, and eagerly awaited our pizza to be ready. The flavors of each and every ingredient truly shone through with each bite, and in mere minutes, our pizza was devoured! We can’t wait to go back and sample more flavors, like the classic “La Mamma” with tomato sauce, fresh cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil, or the Quattro Formaggi that includes gorgeous Italian cheeses.
When it comes to dessert, there is something about a classic Tiramisu with which no other sweet could ever compete with. Be it from the mascarpone that is whipped into creamy submission, or the fragrant coffee flavors and the sweet lady finger biscuits that compliment this delicious confection. A Tiramisu is always best served traditionally, and at La Mamma, expect this dessert to be modernly presented but classically flavored. One spoonful is never enough, so don’t even think about sharing this dessert! Other selections also include an innovative take on the classic Pannacotta by the addition of saffron, or if it is refreshing gelato that you crave, then the selection at La Mamma will surely please the palate.
