February is a special month in Kuwait. It’s arguably the most beautiful, temperate time of the year, (making it the best time to visit!) but it’s also the month of Kuwait’s Liberation 25 years ago, as well as its independence 55 years ago! And though Kuwait has been loveable for long before 25 years, we thought it was only appropriate to commemorate the quarter-century long liberation anniversary by listing all of Kuwait’s most loveable qualities.
Living La Dolce Vita: It’s been said time and time again, that the lifestyle you live in Kuwait is so easy! In a place where you don’t even have to get out of your car to pump gas or to get a pack of gum or cigarettes from the baqala, you must admit, gives you a few extra minutes of your life to relax.
Entrepreneurship: Looking for a specific type of dessert, savory, clothing article or a piece for your home? Chances are, there’s a business for that! Kuwait has proven itself to be a hub for entrepreneurs of the nation. There are so many independent businesses here that start out small and escalate globally as well as hobby-turned-businesses that succeed in their exclusivity to people who live here. If you’re ever thinking of starting a business, just look around! This is definitely the place to feel inspired.
Natural Beauty: How many people in this world can say that they’re blessed enough to live in a place that has both the desert and the beach – and both gorgeous to boot! Only a short drive away, the desert is the ideal spot for camping, barbecuing and riding buggies, and the beach is best for picnics, fishing, boating and leisurely strolls, besides all of the watersports one can practice.
Great Highway System: We know, we know – traffic here can get really annoying, but have you ever stopped to think about how well the highways actually work here? The system is efficient, and if traffic permits, you can get from point A to Z in a matter of minutes!
Amazing Food: When people return from living abroad, whether it’s a long-term or short-term stay, they tend to rush from the airport to home to feast on amazing goodies that can only be found here. From our beloved hole-in-the-wall Iranian Bread, to amazing shawarmas, local independent eateries like Solo Pizza and of course, the infamously amazing Little Dragon in Jabriya, which has been boasted by people from all over the globe as the unofficial best Chinese takeout place in the world.
We have everything here! We take advantage of the fact that it’s so easy for us to access most things we love from other countries such as the UK, the US and Canada. Whether you’ve found yourself accustomed to a certain handmade soap dispensary, or you just can’t live without your daily Grande Macchiato, we must admit that it’s amazing that we could manage to fit all these different brands and goods into one little country – and for all the expats out there, it definitely makes feelings of homesickness a little easier.
Strength and Courage/ Peace and Unity: It’s no question that Kuwait has been through a lot in the past, but the nation managed to bounce back with the ethos of unity. Kuwait has proven to be a socially strong nation that believes no citizen regardless of relegious practice or social status will be left behind.
Rich History: Kuwait has a rich history that stems from years even before the discovery of oil, and it shows all over the country! In between all the new skyscrapers and malls, a history of pearl diving, weaving, and Bedouin culture gleams with modernity. Kuwait also has a lot of attractions that pay homage to the humble country of yore, such as Souq Al Mubarakiya, the Dhow Harbor and Sadu House.
Excellent Point of Travel: It might get hot, but it’s a great place to get anywhere from. Set in the center of the globe, you can travel to so many places from here! The best thing about the airport is that most if not all of the stores and eateries stay open late to accommodate your pre-travel leisure time.
It’s Easy to Call this Place Home: Why do people come back here, and why do they find it so hard to leave? This place is home to so many of us, and it’s often said that it’s a great place to settle down in. If you’ve grown up here, you’ll always find someone from your past who’s friendship you can rekindle, or a family member to reconnect with. In short, this comfortable country ensures that you’ll never be alone, and that you can always come home again.
