Happy Cinco de Mayo! For those of you not aware of its history, it is celebrated in Mexico and the US to commemorate the unlikely victory of the Mexicans over the French. Even though the Mexicans were outnumbered, outgunned and untrained they still won the Battle of Puebla.
Rooting for the underdog is part of our ethos at bazaar, which might explain why we think it is a cool holiday for what it symbolizes. A celebration of Mexican heritage.
In the ’60s, it was adopted by the Californians and crossed over to the rest of the United States. Today, it is all about parades, parties and fun.
If you are looking to celebrate in Kuwait, we have just the list for you, starting with where to eat authentic Mexican food.
We went on the great taco hunt for the best tacos in town. From Solo Tacos to Azteca, there are more options than you can count! (click on the below for more)
But Mexican cuisine has so much more to offer! It is spicy and earthy and so colorful. Our eyes enjoy the feast just as much as our bellies!
You should also consider supporting Mexican artists by buying handicrafts. They are just as bright and bold as their dishes! We love what Izcalli does.

And while Mexico did give us Frida Kahlo, many other artists hail from that side of the Pacific.
We are totally in love with the “Wings of Mexico” sculpture that has been on loan to the Museum of Modern Art in Kuwait, which has just left the country. The golden bronze wings were created by Jorge Marin and are traveling all over the world. Breathtakingly majestic yet so simple.
We are sad to see them go, but we hope to see more Mexican artists in Kuwait.
