You may remember in July 2018 bazaar met modern-Viking adventurer Torbjørn C. Pedersen “Thor”, whose mission it is to travel to every country on earth in a single unbroken journey, without ever using a flight, and staying a minimum of 24hrs in each. He’s currently in Indonesia, country number 184, and still striving to reach to 203.
Thor has been away from home since 2013 and traveled over 273,000 km over land and sea, using the motto he lives by, “A stranger is a friend you’ve never met before.” This intrepid Danish Red Cross Ambassador has experienced hardship, red tape, lack of funds, and kindness. He also found himself unconditional emotional support, getting engaged on top of Mount Kenya in 2016.
“As a part of the Saga I have been visiting the RC all over the world and have so far met with staff and volunteers in 179 countries”, says Thor. “Next up is the PALANG MERAH INDONESIA aka Indonesian Red Cross Society which is to become the 180th.”
The Red Cross movement began in 1863 and has now spread all around the world to nearly every country (191). The humanitarian aid organisation is also known as Red Crescent and Red Crystal, depending on where you are in the world. Thor encourages you to donate, volunteer or in other ways support the humanitarian efforts and alleviate the suffering of the globe’s most vulnerable people saying, “You matter, and so do your actions.”
