Ready to warm up all 642 of your muscles for a good cause? With only a few days left, you still have plenty of time to register for one of the biggest community events of the year: the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon, set to take place Saturday, November 16, 2019.
Whether you are a challenge-seeking athlete or a beginner runner, there is a distance that matches everyone’s fitness level at Gulf Bank 642 Marathon, from 5 KM to 42 KM. The best part? With every meaningful step, you will be running to raise awareness for a local cause, helping those in need and giving back to the community.
For the fifth year in a row, Gulf Bank is launching the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon in partnership with Pro-Vision Sports Management. The race takes runners through beautiful landmarks in Kuwait, starting at the entrance bridge of Souq Sharq, and heading in and out of Souq Al-Mubarakiya. As a participant, you have the option of competing in one of four categories: 5KM, 10KM, 21KM, and 42KM. The family-fun activity brings together people from all over the local community, with last year’s marathon bringing in over 7,500 attendees, with over 66 nationalities competing at the event.
Gulf Bank 642 Marathon is proud to announce the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships. AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings – is a global age group marathon ranking system. The rankings will culminate at the first AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship race taking place in spring 2020. This will allow all runners participating in the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon 2019 to get a chance to qualify for the age group ranking program at AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships. Participants in the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon will earn points according to their age, time and gender, aligned with the following age groups for men and women: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+. This gives runners taking part in the event the chance to be part of a new era of age group marathon running.
Tim Hadzima, Executive Director of Abbott World Marathon Majors said, “We are very excited about the response to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings from marathons around the world. More than 125,000 runners aged 40+ participate in AbbottWMM race each year and this new system will allow even more runners to become a part of the AbbottWMM family.”

Every year, Gulf Bank partners with a local cause in order to give back to the local community. As part of Gulf Bank’s social responsibility, Gulf Bank is partnering with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) to donate funds for medical aid to those who are unable to afford medical treatment in Kuwait. All proceeds will go towards the provision of medical devices including pacemakers, cochlear devices, hearing aids, electric wheelchairs and stents.
