The journey of sustainable fashion can be like a treasure hunt while discovering new technologies and uncovering new ways to source materials along the way. This summer, the latest H&M Kids print collaboration features a bounty of Dieter Braun’s digitally rendered animal illustrations and palm prints on more sustainably sourced materials. This capsule collection includes Braun’s exotic birds, tigers and giant palms printed onto a range of children’s clothing and accessories, and includes organic cotton, recycled cotton, recycled polyester and eco-responsible viscose.
The Hamburg-based illustrator is well-known for his expressive shapes and colors, which are reminiscent of traditional printing techniques, but he uses a combination of vectors, hand drawings and scanned textures to create the vivid wildlife world. For the collaboration, his detail-rich and striking illustrations feature on jackets, dresses, shorts, jumpsuits, tops and skirts. Sandals, undergarments, socks, hair accessories and pajamas round out the collection. With a color palette that includes a range of vibrant greens, peach, light orange, white and black, the collection is an exploration of lush jungles and paradise islands. The entire collection is made from sustainably sourced materials, taking H&M purposefully closer to their goal of using 100% organic, recycled or other sustainably sourced materials by 2030.
“I have travelled a lot to Africa and Australia to observe wildlife in its natural habitat, which is where the inspiration for my illustrations comes from. For the H&M collaboration, I wanted to bring the bright colors of a jungle paradise to life and show children the fascinating world of hummingbirds, jaguars, tigers and co.”
Dieter Braun, illustrator and children’s book author.
“We’re thrilled to have Dieter Braun’s illustrations on our latest kidswear collection. Not only is each piece an amazing study of wildlife and exotic plants, but they’re also part of an important journey on the path of sustainable kidswear. The future belongs to kids and H&M wants to do what we can to make it a better one by only using sustainably sourced materials, including newer technologies such as eco-responsible viscose,” says Sofia Löfstedt, Head of Kidswear Design at H&M.
The collection will be available from April 29, the collection will be in stores worldwide, as well as online on hm.com.
