Sadu House is launching its new program platform, called the Weaving Stories. Exhibition of Egyptian applique art marks the starting point in Weaving Stories program, envisaged to promote and celebrate textile stories from the region and beyond.
The Exhibition and Workshop displays the colorful and elaborate applique work that derives from the decorative wedding tents of the Mamluk, Ottoman and Khedive eras in Egypt. The meticulous stitches and elaborate designs take us back to the historical districts of Cairo and their beautiful monuments, carved domes, and facades.
This exhibition and workshop bring to Kuwait two professional tent applique masters, to conduct a two days’ workshop (October 22nd & 24th) and share their experience with the Sadu House enthusiasts. During the workshop, participants will be introduced to pattern design and their transfer on canvas, the folding and adjustment of cotton appliques and the hand-sewing technique in the style of the tentmakers of Cairo.
