A latte served in a chocolate-coated ice cream cone?!
Oh, we are not kidding. It does exist!
It’s one of the latest offerings at the ARGAN Square project, a new restaurant complex located a hop skip and a jump from the American University of Kuwait.
We visited on the weekend right before sunset and loved the place!
The design is simple with restaurants facing a central square, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. If you can brave the cold, we recommend grabbing a seat at the plaza.
But what we were most excited about was GRND Coffee Co, which is housed inside Bowl’d, the creators of the fun and colorful acai bowls.

While you can get the usual coffee in a paper cup, the uniqueness of GRND is their chocolate-coated ice cream cones that are cup alternatives.
Our favorite was the Spanish latte, made with sweetened condensed milk – that’s dessert and coffee in one!
As you have the coffee, it melts the chocolate layer and so you end up having a latte turn into a mocha as you sip. And the best part is, it’s just like having an ice cream but hot – you get to eat the cone with coffee soaked chocolate, and there’s no paper cup to throw away! #environmentallyfriendly
If caffeine isn’t your thing, the hot chocolate is just as delicious.
There are also other coffee houses; Coffee Masters and Caribou are already open.
But it’s not all just coffee at ARGAN SQUARE. There’s Ubon, Rock House Sliders, Backyard, tender grilled ribs from Muscle Makers, and more vendors coming soon!
For AUK students caught without a pen, there’s a WHSmith that is set to open up soon.
The focal point of ARGAN Square, that sets it apart from other food complexes, is community building and events. Last month, ARGAN Square played host to the Battle of the Bands and to a photo contest.
They recently offered local graffiti artists a section of the square as a huge canvas.
The resulting graffiti is bold, bright and charmingly eccentric, a reminder of the amazing potential that can come out of Kuwait. We were impressed by a bright yellow camel in black sunglasses, surrounded by explosions of pink and blue letters in a sea of green bubbles.
They’ve also recently launched a weekly movie night, with the next ones coming up on December 13 and December 20.
Just as our round of the complex came to an end, we saw a band starting to set up. We of course had to stick around! The unnamed band’s music was a fusion of guitar and ethnic folk percussion such as the tabla.
The music, the cool weather and sugar high made us want to stay forever in this cozy square – a peaceful corner tucked away in the middle of the urban jungle
When we did finally tear ourselves away from Argan Square, it was with great difficulty and we were already making plans for our return!
