Flowers radiate happiness and positivity at all times. One can never go wrong while decorating with flowers. So imagine a dinner party or a small, intimate gathering. How much better would it be with flowers around? A simple centerpiece for the table, or extravagant pieces scattered all around, there are no rules to govern the world of floral décor. It’s all about the personal touches you think would work with you. We get to chat with Au Nom De La Rose’s flora-extraordinaire-at-large, Noor Al Mutawa, to find out what her top tips are about bringing nature into your home.
Where does one start when discussing the rules of floral arrangements for your home? According to Noor, “there are no rules.” You can literally create anything and everything you want, with any budget. “Visually, it’s the most important thing,” Noor states, “It makes everything look prettier.” She’s 100% correct. When you walk into someone’s home, the first thing you tend to look at is the greenery. Be it a bouquet that adorns the entrance, or a simple bonsai tree by a windowsill, the flora in your home is always a talking point. Restaurants use flowers to decorate their tables to give you a welcoming vibe, so why should you shy away from it?
Floral elements in the household add beauty, “I love putting an orchid plant next to a mirror,” Noor smiles, “because it gives a double effect and lasts for a long time.” Exuding positive energy, flowers put a smile on anyone’s face. Every member of the family will feel relaxed and happy when in a room where flowers are present. Give your house a homey feel and add floral accents to at least one space.
Your options are limitless when choosing an arrangement. If you were throwing a dinner party, you could go with a beautifully crafted centerpiece on the dining table. Around the dishes you could have some greenery, or small fishbowls with a single floating rose, orchid, or any other flower of your choosing inside them. You could also place a fishbowl or small bouquet on the side tables, coffee tables, and general pre-meal seating area. Anything can be turned into a vase. From glass water bottles, to fishbowls, you can house your flowers in virtually anything. The one thing Noor stresses on the most is the importance of flowers in the home. Flowers make everything better, that’s a fact.
“People should stop waiting for special occasions to add flowers and start including at least some greenery, in their home,” says Noor. “Themes and colors are important aspects to factor in when choosing an arrangement,” she adds. Noor has taken elements from her garden and replicated them into her floral arrangements for tables. “This way, we can add a sense of unity,” she smiles. As she walks us through the setting of three different arrangements, we’re utterly blown away by the simplicity and power she’s added to each tabletop.
We all seek out those cute floral prints in our clothing, tableware, and home furnishings. But the one thing we’re all guilty of excluding from our lives, are actual flowers. Floral arrangements can be the most beautiful element of any well-designed space. So why aren’t we making an effort to have flowers inside our own homes?
