Whether you’ve passed by the beautiful golden entrance at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Street, enjoyed the smell and taste of coffee, or played billiards with family and friends upstairs. Blank Sphere’s location, aesthetics, and menu items is a destination in K-town that shouldn’t be missed out on, especially if you need to take the edge off.
What makes Blank Sphere stand out between the rest of the coffee shops in Kuwait city is most definitely the interior design which was done by Reem Al-Sanea. To differentiate Blank Sphere from the other industrial coffee shops, they’ve managed to mix-up the atmosphere and present us with a new place. It is also inspired by the name itself as the owner of Blank Sphere Taiba explains “The Government requires choosing five names to be accepted, Blank Space was our first choice but we randomly added Blank Sphere to the list and it was chosen. Then it developed more
with the need to reflect the name in the location, by bringing something rare and different. Giving a high-end space a regular look while also resembling the concept of the name with the place.”
Once you step into the coffee shop, you instantly realize the effort that’s been done to keep it as minimalistic but as high-end as possible while still oozing luxury and decadence. Taiba gave us an example of the floors, which are blank white without any additions, while sphere stands for the “Spherical roundness, no edges from the mirror, to walls, to staircase, to the hanging chair. Everything resembles the name; minimal and no edges,” she says. That is also how the slogan “Take The Edge Off” came up!
All of these elements can be seen from outside the coffee shop, as the hanging chair is displayed right behind the spotless clear glass doors, while the spiral staircase takes you on a path to another level of fun that is the upstairs lounge where the slogan fits perfectly. The comfortable seating, leather couches and comfy cushions, with books, board games and billiards or pool table is set up there.
The owner says, “Taking the edge off comes along with the concept of Blank Sphere. All the seating furniture is from Mena Casa, and the hanging chair is from Lee Broom designer. So, everything is high-end, high quality to try and offer the customers a different experience of quality through atmosphere and interior.” The billiard table can also be switched to a meeting table while the upper floor in Blank Sphere is also available for private bookings.
Blank Sphere has been fully operational for more than a year now, and the feedback has been very positive so far, according to Taiba “Blank Sphere tries its best to update and upgrade more to reach our customer’s satisfaction.” That is also done through their unique menu items that include the popular and best seller dessert, the salted caramel cheesecake with cotton candy.
Another interesting item is their drink of choice, the Tiramisu which as the owner states that “Blank Sphere usually focuses on classic coffee for the coffee lovers, but the majority of our guests likes it lightly sweetened. Creative drinks such as the Tiramisu, the popcorn latte and salted caramel came up, which are sweet, but not that much.” The menu is already expanding with a new drink section that offers protein drinks, snacks and much more.
Blank Sphere has been keeping an eye on what’s missing in Kuwait’s culture of specialty coffee spots, the café is not only perfect for a quick coffee stop mid-working hours, but it is also a place where you’ll be able to enjoy your coffee in a different atmosphere in the heart of Kuwait city.
