There is a particular kind of car that doesn’t ask you to adjust to it. You sit down, grip the wheel, and something shifts. The road ahead looks different. That is the promise of the GR Corolla, Toyota GAZOO Racing’s most compact expression of what happens when rally engineers are handed a production brief and told not to hold back.
ALSAYER Automotive has brought the GR Corolla to Kuwait roads, and the timing feels right. Kuwait’s appetite for performance has been building steadily, and this car speaks directly to drivers who want something that responds, that rewards, that actually feels like it was made for them.
The engineering story begins under the hood. A 1.6-liter G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine, the same powertrain family that underpins Toyota’s World Rally Championship efforts, produces 296 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Those numbers matter less than what they feel like in practice: strong, immediate mid-range pull that doesn’t plateau. It was refined through real track testing, which is worth saying plainly, because it shows. The engine doesn’t just perform on paper.

Power reaches all four wheels through the GR-FOUR active torque-split all-wheel drive system, which continuously recalibrates distribution to maximize grip and keep the car planted through corners. Drivers who want full engagement can opt for the six-speed manual transmission. Those who prefer the car to handle the shifting can choose the eight-speed GR-DAT, Toyota GAZOO Racing’s own Direct Automatic Transmission, calibrated to respond as quickly as a driver would want and no faster.
The chassis follows the same logic. MacPherson strut suspension at the front, double wishbone at the rear, and a body that has been worked over aerodynamically with purpose. The hood ducts, front bumper vents, and enlarged grille openings are not styling exercises. They are part of a cooling and airflow system developed to maintain stability and downforce under sustained high-speed conditions. On the GR-DAT variant, an air-cooled transmission fluid cooler adds another layer of thermal management, keeping everything running cleanly regardless of how the car is being driven.

Inside, the GR Corolla keeps its focus. The cabin is driver-oriented without being spartan: an 8-inch Display Audio system handles navigation and vehicle data, supportive sports seats hold the driver in place through lateral movement, and the layout gives a clear sense of connection between the person and the machine. The 60/40 split-folding rear seats add genuine practicality, expanding cargo configurations for the days when the car is doing everyday work rather than weekend driving.
Safety has not been sacrificed in the name of performance. The GR Corolla carries Toyota Safety Sense as standard, covering Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam. Blind Spot Monitor and Safe Exit Assist extend awareness to the surrounding environment, and both transmission variants include rear visibility systems suited to their respective configurations.
The exterior arrives in four colors: Precious Metal, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Emotional Red, and Precious Black, paired with Black or Black and Red interior options. The choices are considered rather than overwhelming. Each combination holds together well, and the Emotional Red, in particular, carries the car’s character honestly.

Nobuyuki Takemura of Toyota Motor Corporation’s Middle East Representative office put it plainly: “The Middle East has a growing passion for performance and motorsport culture. The GR Corolla brings Toyota GAZOO Racing’s engineering philosophy to a compact, highly capable platform that delivers excitement on every drive.”
For drivers in Kuwait who have been waiting for a car that takes the act of driving seriously, the wait is over.
