The bazaar team was recently invited to a wonderful evening celebrating and titled the “Beauty of Change”. Our wonderful hosts introduced us to the interesting topic that beauty could be changemaking. We got to know what changemaking beauty means, saw some videos of real changemaking stories, played games, experienced activism, had fun at the workshop and were audience to a powerful presentation on resilience in our lives by guest speaker Salma Al Hajjaj.

The Body Shop founder Dame Anita Roddick said, “Business shapes the world. It is capable of changing society in almost any way you can imagine.” That statement has become one of the driving forces behind The Body Shop, not just a cosmetics company but a business as a force for good. With a deep rooted commitment to ethical beauty ,sustainability, and social activism, the brand has been challenging the norms of the beauty industry since 1976.
From the iconic Shea Body Butter to the most loved Edelweiss Daily Serum Concentrate, each product enhances natural beauty and encourages harmony between body and soul to boost self-love.“

The Body Shop was founded in 1976 by the late entrepreneur Dame Anita Roddick. Starting with one small green shop in Brighton, England, selling hand mixed naturally inspired products with minimal packaging, Anita Roddick revolutionized the beauty industry. Ethically sourced ingredients, simple packaging, and empowering communication defined The Body Shop’s approach to beauty. Her vision of using beauty as a force for good made The Body Shop a brand that cared about more than just appearances. Today, her founding principles still guide them as they continue to grow globally, staying true to our heritage and legacy.

The Body Shop’s commitment to Community Fair Trade is at the heart of how they operate. They believe that by sourcing natural ingredients, accessories, and gifts from socially or economically marginalized communities around the world, they can create sustainable trading relationships that uplift and empower producers. Through long term trading partnerships, The Body Shop offers fair trading practices, foster independence, and provide access to the global market.
The brand has been an activist one, since inception they have campaigned on issues that are directly relevant to consumers and industry. From their first major campaign, “Save the Whale” in 1986, to fighting against animal testing in 1989, they have consistently used their platform to advocate for causes they deeply care about. In May 2022, The Body Shop launched Be seen Be Heard, their most ambitious global activism campaign which seeks to amplify youth voices in public life.

Simply, The Body Shop wants them to BE SEEN AND BE HEARD. This can be done, only if we support their development. In Kuwait The Body Shop collaborate with Injaz, local Nonprofit organization that inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. The Body Shop with Injaz want to spread awareness about importance of supporting young people and they want as many people as possible to commit to this support via the pledge. Everybody can support within their reach. Some of us can support by providing education, training, jobs or just simply listening what young generation is bothered with and what they would like to change.
That’s why we are launching pledge, where people give us virtual promise to support young people.
We’re also seeing The Body Shop make tangible and visible environmental changes. By collecting empty plastic and aluminum packaging in all stores in Kuwait for recycling they are making it easier for our customers to reduce their impact on the planet.

They’re empowering people to feel positive and proud about themselves, their bodies, and their futures. All of the Body Shop’s products are designed to promote self-love and confidence, especially among women and girls, who are most vulnerable.
In a world facing unprecedented challenges, The Body Shop remains at the forefront of ethically driven business, daring to be brave, active, outspoken, passionate, and kind. Their work is not done yet and they are committed to continuing on their path forward to their ideal of creating a better world, with the unwavering belief that they can make a difference one product at a time.
This is Changemaking beauty.
