A tried and tested favorite, Crumbs has always been a place to count on for awesome cakes and dessert creations. With their gorgeous third location in the new Murouj Complex near the Sahara Golf and Country Club, Crumbs Café is now serving lunch and dinner to patrons. Light and airy, the café is flooded with natural light that reflects off the pristine tables to accentuate the décor. It’s the details that really get to us – and Arwa Al-Turkait really knows her stuff. Beautiful flowers adorn the tabletops matching the setting perfectly. The menu is gloriously extensive. Although it’s short, it is superbly mighty. The options range from salads and big plates to sandwiches and drinks, to a separate menu dedicated to desserts.
Arwa had started her crumb-filled journey back in 2008 with a small bakery and a large helping of passion. Now, it’s expanded into two fully-fledged bakeries and a cute café in a serene location. Their menu boasts eclectic fare, sprinkled with an international vibe with a dash of modernity. With items suited for every taste, there’s something for everyone.
The tables are stark white, accented with pastel gray chairs with pale yellow backings. Minimalism at its best, the entire place is created to take your focus off the surroundings and onto the main attraction – your food. Served up in pristine white plates, their selection is delicious. Going over the menu a few times, we finally settled on an assortment that would give us the full picture. From salads to drinks and desserts – we left no corner of the menu unexplored, and walked away pleasantly full.
To start off, we ordered the Date Goat Cheese salad. Fried breaded goat’s cheese stuffed with dates on a bed of mixed lettuce topped off with a light, fresh dressing. The sweetness from the dates brings out the tang in the cheese while the crunch from the dressed lettuce added a new level to this concoction. As an amalgamation of sweet and sour, this salad was refreshingly appetizing. Next, we got to the appetizers, the Small Plates if you will. The Sweet Potato Spuds we ordered were an absolute vision – the taste was deliciously divine. Beautifully oven-roasted and cut into bite-sized chunks, the spuds came with a side of Crumbs Spicy Sauce. A tad on the spicy side, this sauce compliments the sweetness of the potatoes flawlessly. The second appetizer we went for were the Pumpkin Quinoa Cakes. Stuffed with spinach and chickpeas with a helping of yoghurt sauce on top, this variation of the pumpkin Kebbeh was incredible. Light, fluffy, and delectable – these cakes left us with a familiar taste but with an incredible twist.
Salads and small plates cleared out, we were ready for our mains. We decided to go for a Big Plate and a Sandwich to get a wider variety of dishes. From the big plate selection, we went for the Roasted Salmon. With a honey-mustard glaze, this exceptionally flaky salmon was a vision of excellence. Accompanied by a bed of green couscous and cherry tomatoes, every bite was flawlessly mouth-watering. Our sandwich of choice was Crumbs’ super delicious Monte Cristo. Two golden, crispy slices of French toast with smoked turkey and melted Swiss cheese, finished off with a dusting of icing sugar and a side of homemade berry jam. A filling meal with huge flavors – yum! The mocktails and smoothies that accompanied our meals were fabulous! Do not miss out on the two we had – Snapchat and the Green Monster, perfect!
To end our remarkable meal, we couldn’t wait to jump right into desserts. With a plethora of desserts to choose from – this was Crumbs after all – we didn’t know where to go. After much debate, we settled with two – the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Chocolate Budini. The Chocolate Budini is a baked chocolate mousse – reminiscent of a soufflé, or molten cake – with a drizzle of nutella and dulce de leche, and topped off with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. And the Sticky Toffee Pudding was a super moist date cake with a generous helping of toffee sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Crumbs’ ultimate ethos lies in their desserts, and they delivered wonderfully. But with their expansion and into a full café, Crumbs will become the ultimate destination for an well-rounded delicious culinary experience.
