Until very recently curly hair was something you wanted to straighten, chemically treat or just plain hide in a bun or under a hat. If you are blessed with a head of curls, you might have even been bullied or called a mankoushe. It may have been the rise of the body positive and self-acceptance movements or celebrating diversity that made curly hair ok. Even though embracing your curls is all about not trying to change your body to fit an ideal aesthetic, it is not there yet. Frizz is still looked down on and your curls need to be bouncy, luscious and shiny.
We really hope that this isn’t just another trend that will die down quickly because we’re absolutely tired of pretending we have straight hair. Even though the curly hair cult sometimes feels just as tough because they want us to completely shun any kind of heat styling and commit to the curly only look. And you really do still need a lot of time and product to properly style and coif your hair.
Luckily a lot of brands have been popping up in Kuwait that cater to your needs. Here’s a round up of some of our favorites:
@Curlificant Rubbing your hair with an old school towel is like booking a one-way ticket to frizz central. You are supposed to plop it in a T-shirt or you can get your microfiber towel/turban for gentle hair drying. The fabric will just soak up the moisture without damaging your hair.
@Shopcurls has a great selection of natural and clean hair products but our favorite is the microwavable flax-filled hair cap. The heat helps open up the hair cuticles for better absorption of your hair mask or oil treatment. The relaxation is just the icing on the cake.
@Peony_Skin You are going to need more than one towel and Peony Skin stock our favorite quick drying turban by KITSCH. Curly hair can take forever to dry but these will make the time go by really quickly. And they have polka dots! Need we say more?
@thecurlnation The self-proclaimed first Curly Hair Webstore in GCC has one of the biggest selections of curly hair products. We also love that they have great tips and video tutorials to help you get those curls in order.
@curlywurly.studio You can use all the products in the world, but without the right haircut you are out of luck. Visit CurlyWurly Studio for a special curl by curl cut.
@hairproductskw Protect your precious curls while you sleep by replacing your old pillowcase with a satin smooth one that one distress your tresses.
@curlygirls_kw offers inspo, tips, tutorials and reviews. Just very recently started selling their own flaxseed gel, which is a great alternative to chemical based gels.
