Driven by human emotion, digital artist Fida Al Hussan has captivated our online feeds with her ethereal works. Based in Riyadh, KSA, the Saudi-born artist believes that art allows us all to delve deeper into our souls to self-improve. She is inspired by every element of the human soul, from anger, love to selfishness and harassment—all of these aspects drive Fida to deliver us with her incredible use of patterns, arabesque symbols and seamlessly fusing the western with the oriental through her mixed media works.

When did you first become interested in art?

Since childhood, I considered myself a painter. I was inclined to draw animations until my teens, and loved art direction and creating video clips for my brothers. Then I learned how to take my ideas onto the computer and work with Photoshop.

Are you a full time artist? If so, how did you arrive at this point in your life?

Yes, I am an artist. I used to work privately and did not particularly think about displaying my work, until I decided  to participate in the first exhibition of Saudi art. I was surprised by the number of those interested in my work and the rapid response I received, especially winning best graphic designer by strong corporations. There was no classification yet for digital art, and I have not stopped since then.

How do you create your beautiful pieces?

Works of art that are done through mixed digital media, which includes photographs and different graphic drawings and colors with oil paints and charcoal water colors are all incorporated into a digital frame, from which I create my art using all those elements.

What inspires your work?

Fashion, music, the streets the different peoples’ heritage of clothes, colors and cultures all captivate me. I hope our art will have something that will distinguish us for future generations.

How have viewers reacted to your work?

I am delighted and amazed by the different cultures, nationalities and religions who share the same views about my art.  This is really inspiring and I am pleased with the clear agreement among people and their feelings towards the artwork.

Can you tell us more about your collection of artworks for 2016?

I have lots of work over the coming year with artists, TV shows and video clips as an Art Director, as well as various exhibitions in Dubai, and Jeddah. I am also looking forward to work on charitable exhibitions which can contribute to solving humanitarian crises.

Where have you exhibited your work in the region?

Currently, my work has been exhibited online through my manager, and certain private exhibitions in Saudi Arabia.

What is the most challenging part of your artistic career so far?

After working on the development of the basic digital curriculum for the Princess Noura University of Arts, I don’t find students building their identity or creating their own work. It has become frustrating seeing people copy others’ work, and printing widely without permission. Art creativity and my business have been growing and I did not find difficulties, but my concern is always the selection of good opportunities.

What’s next for Fida Art?

Lots of collaboration amongst fellow artists and exhibitions this year.
