Anyone who visits Emirgan Sütiş is part of a story that started in Batum, Georgia with two men called Hacı Mehmet Aga, who was famous for his cakes and pastries and Sütçü Ahmet, who was famous for his milky desserts. Mevlüt Kocadag, the former’s grandson and the latter’s son-in-law left the family business in 1953 to establish the very first Sütis shop in Nisantası. The move was bold and entrepreneurial and it laid the foundation for the Emirgan Sütis brand we all know and love today.
Half a century later, Sütiş had become one of the most famous milk pudding shops in Istanbul after opening the Taksim Branch in addition to the Nişantaşı branch in 1982. Four years later, the first official “Emirgan Sütiş” restaurant was opened in the Emirgan neighborhood overlooking the Bosphorus.
Three generations of a commitment to customer satisfaction and enjoyment that started with milky dessert has driven the brand’s continued and dynamic success. Impeccable customer service and hospitality keeps guests coming back for more. Original recipes that are developed and constantly honed in-house make sure that things are always delicious and fresh and every visit is a true treat.
For all of us in Kuwait, Emirgan Sütiş is our number one destination when we are craving Turkish cuisine. From the East meets West vibes to tradition and heritage that can still exist in a modern world, it is a charming and magical cuisine. The restaurants here have been designed to evoke a sense of wanderlust and travel to a mystical land of simit and spice.
We truly appreciate the variety and richness of all the menu items at Sütiş. Whether we are there for breakfast, lunch or dinner we always leave with full bellies and hearts. They specialize in freshly baked simit that arrives steaming hot at your table. And there are so many options to choose from like the classic round ones to cheese or chocolate stuffed simit.
A Turkish breakfast is deceptively simple, but it is always hearty and delicious. The borek is always a star at the table, and with fillings like spinach and meat, who wouldn’t want to eat a whole plate (or more). Don’t forget to finish it all off with a cup of Traditional Turkish Tea.
Lunch and dinner are an even more exciting affair at Sütiş. Classic appetizers like Ezme which is made from tomatoes, cucumber, green bell pepper, parsley, olive oil, paprika, lemon, red onion and pomegranate sauce or Cacik which is made from yogurt, cucumber, mint and olive oil will rev you and your palette up for the oncoming feast. The main dishes are where the real party is at. There are so many different beautifully grilled meats with the perfect char marks that you can order. The Adana kebab is available in beef or chicken with the same rich spices.
There’s the lighter Etli Gozleme which is a Turkish pastry filled with minced meat, Turkish spices, & cheese. Served with french fries. Or try the Sutis Gurme, a platter of mixed grills inclusive of lamb chops, cheese kofte, flank steak, shish tawouq and grilled chicken served with sautéed vegetables and spinach, with your choice of french fries, white rice, baked potato or bulgur.
We love dishes that are unique to the restaurant like Doner simit, a sesame simit bread filled with doner meat, tahini sauce, sumac, lettuce and white onions and served with french fries. You might think that Sütiş’ menu is mostly meat based, but vegetarians can still enjoy the sweet grills in the form of the Eggplant Kebab.
We’re almost always stuffed after a meal like this but we make sure that there is still room for dessert. The Baklava is a must-try! There is even a mixed dish that allows you to try the different flavors without committing to one in particular. Our favorite though is the Katmer which is a traditional Turkish sweet filled with kaymak and topped with pistachio. Or try the Keskul which is fresh milk with Turkish buffalo thick cream, almond, rice starch freshly prepared in a traditional Turkish way.
A visit to Emirgan Sütiş is like a visit to Turkey itself. It is exciting, fun and very filling.
