Yes, we’re still sad that some of our long-time running favorite shows have ended (Game of Thrones, it’s been real… Kind of lol) Anyways! The golden age of TV is still running strong, as the movie stars continue to light up the small screen, adding new forms of hype and quality. From exceptional limited series to reality shows, we’re here to lay out a few up-and-coming TV shows, ones that are both worth rewatching or adding to that never-ending watchlist.
THE CROWN
After two seasons of Claire Foy gracing our screens as Queen Elizabeth II, the main cast of The Crown has changed entirely for the upcoming season 3, which will premiere on Netflix on Sunday, November 17. We don’t want to spoil the last two seasons for you, but it basically takes us through the monarch’s life since she took the throne, including crucial life-changing events.
For season 3, the show creators decided to change the cast due to age differences, so to those who were attached to certain characters, don’t worry, it’s a stellar new cast! Academy Award winner Olivia Colman will reprise Foy’s role as The Queen, joined by the magnificent Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margret. Matt Smith, who played the Duke of Edinburgh, will step down while Tobias Menzies will take on the role. It’s safe to say that we’ve been waiting for the new season way too long and now it’s sooner than ever, rejoice!
QUEER EYE: WE’RE IN JAPAN!
I mean, who is NOT obsessed with the Fab 5? They are, literally, the fluffiest and most joyful people ever shown on TV. If you’ve finished the latest season and keep wanting more of those tearful episodes that bring absolute warmth to your hearts, then tune in! The Fab team are taking over Japan, which is a challenge of its own. Will Jonathan, Karamo, Antoni, Tan, and Bobby cope with the culture clash? We’ll have to wait and see on November 1st!
PEAKY BLINDERS
For those who are still waiting for season 5 to get released on Netflix, it’s coming through on October 4 (Yay!!). This crime-ridden period drama has already wrapped up its season of six episodes on BBC, but if you’re in need of a little more Cillian Murphy charm and soul grabbing dialogues on your screen along with the rest of the Shelby gang, then start streaming once it’s out.
THE POLITICIAN
A new era is entering Netflix, and that is Ryan Murphy’s new political series, The Politician, premiering September 27. The show revolves around the notions of becoming a politician on the school grounds of Saint Sebastian High School, and it’s promising episodes full of comedy and clever satire. Ben Platt, who will be playing the starring role of Payton Hobart, will join Gwyneth Paltrow who plays Georgina Hobart, and the awesome Jessica Lange who’s playing Dusty Jackson.
THE GOOD PLACE
The fourth and final forking season! We’re going to miss this weird afterlife, death, hell, heaven and everything in between comedy series, truly. But, let’s hope the show delivers the closure we all need to see for our favorite characters, especially Eleanor Shellstrop (played by Kristen Bell) and Chidi (played by William Jackson Harper).
STREET FOOD
Foodies, assemble! We think this show on Netflix is kind of underrated, so we’re going to do our thing and slightly overate it. The series explores the beautiful rich culture of street food at the world’s most distinguished cities in Asia. From Japan to India, we assure you, you will be astonished and just drooling over your screens wanting to try all of the amazing dishes featured on every episode. It showcases the importance and ultimately, the authentic culture of street food. Informative and delicious.
RAISING DION
Based on the 2015 comic book and short film, Raising Dion follows a widowed single mom, Nicole (played by Alisha Wainwright) who discovers that her son, Dion (played by Ja’Siah Young) has superpowers as she aims to figure out how to safely and responsibly raise him. The American superhero, but also sci-fi series, is actually executively produced by Michael B. Jordan, who has a small cameo on the show. The series will air on Netflix on October 4!
CATHERINE THE GREAT
The astonishing Helen Mirren will be playing the role of Russian empress and the greatest tsarina Catherine the Great. We’ll be seeing the movie star in a new era where she tries to deal and overcome scandals and multiple conflicts. The four-part historical drama will follow the end of Catherine’s reign, which will be released by HBO on October 21st (Check it out on OSN as well), but we cannot wait to see what kind of performance will Helen Mirren show us in it!
