Last month we shared some of our favorite markets, festivals and great things to do in Kuwait’s wonderful cool-weather season. At bazaar, we’re all veterans of these events and activities and experience has taught us that with some simple planning we can have an exponentially better time.
Be informed
Some festivals and markets are free to enter and for others you need to purchase your tickets early and in advance. Check the location on Google Maps because some venues have multiple locations and it would be a shame to get there and realize you are in the wrong one.
Get there early
We love that everyone wants in on the hottest new thing, but sometimes navigating the crowds can be a challenge. Avoid the daunting queues by getting there early. You are also more likely to be able to purchase things before they sell out.
Go with a friend
One of the reasons we advocate for an early arrival is the parking situation. Depending on the venue, there might not be enough space for everyone. Carpool with a bunch of friends, it is also better for the environment. You get the added benefit of enjoying their company for longer.
Smart footwear
Yes, we know that you have been saving your favorite heels for an occasion like this. But tottering in your stilettos in the grass might not be the brightest idea. You can still enjoy your fancy shoes at an indoor concert but stick to something more comfortable if you are going to be doing a lot of walking or standing.
Carry cash
It is a brave new world, and many vendors have caught up with the times and offer KNET and credit card options. Yet, cold hard cash (in smaller notes!) is still king. And no one wants to miss out on the latest food fad because they are a few fils short.
Bring your own bag
Most of the wonderful people who are selling at booths and stalls are woke enough to now offer paper or other non-plastic alternatives. But you should still play it safe and carry your own reusable tote. It is just more practical and more environmentally friendly.
Be mindful of others
It is easy to get caught up in the moment and forget that the rest of the world exists. But please be courteous. Don’t litter, don’t block passageways and don’t forget that everyone else deserves to have a good time too.
Share the love
We are aware that sometimes the social media fiesta can be overwhelming, but by sharing photos of your new-found favorite artisans or artists you are helping them grow and making sure that they will still be in business next year. And if you can, tag them on Instagram so your circle of friends can easily find them.
