We’d like to introduce our brand new #online series in collaboration with Nuqat: The Social Interview. Get to know the talented individuals who will be conducting this year’s series of workshops. First up is Kulsum Kunwa, who will be conducting the Food in Motion Videography Workshop with Iain Bagwell.
Do you have to be an artist to be creative?
I believe all artists are creatives but not all creatives are artists in a literal sense. To be creative means to be able to do things in different ways, better ways, and to be able to adapt to change. We all have a creative in us I believe.
To you, what does it mean to be creative?
A finance person can be called a creative, if he can solve financial issues in a creative way.
Who are your industry heroes?
It is such an honour that I get to work along side one of my heroes Iain Bagwel in this workshop. Christ Court and Sharyn Cairns are some of the others.
What are the benefits of participating in your workshop as a part of Studio Nuqat?
We have put together a great itinerary for participants and the sheer pleasure of watching a legend like Iain work will be a learning experience I believe. We shall be shooting an entire video with editing over the 4 days – I can’t wait!
Why do you think these workshops are important to the cultivation of the creative economy?
A creative process, like making a video, requires people of different skills sets like a stylist, prop stylist, assistants and creative directors. Once you get into it you might find one job more suitable to you than just videography. It opens up so many venues for different careers in the same field.
What is the most challenging aspect of succeeding in a career in the creative industry?
To constantly challenge your own creativity. To be able to move out of your zone and move on.
If you could attend another Studio Nuqat workshop, which one would it be?
Definitely the Sadu inspired product design! I love Sadu and always wanted to use it in some form in my work and I would love to explore how.
