Be prepared, and be careful of the monsters hiding under your bed or stairs, be aware of teeth grinding sharp, and eyes glowing red. But, don’t be afraid to take a chance, roll the dice, and ride with the moon in the dead of the night! The spooky day will be upon us soon, and we can’t wait to be prepped and dressed for it, so here are some fun bazaar stories about both our deceased and dream costumes:
Name: Jennifer Cádiz (Mixed Media Solutions)
The Deceased Costume: Never one to over-indulge their kids for parties or events there was nothing for us to look forward to when there was any social occasion that required a costume, other than a bed-sheet with a couple of holes cut out. Instant ghost. And to make things worse, I’m sure I remember the sheet being A. Not white and B. Fitted.
The Dream Costume: I’d love to go as a six foot two, with eyes of blue, blonde-haired white guy who drives a Mini instead of a Hummer and therefore has the swagger to match. #LifeGoals
Name: Yasmine El Charif (Content Manager)
The Deceased Costume: I was a chubby kid, and my mom went through a phase of dressing me up in the least flattering costumes (Yes, many, many costumes). The worst must have been the golden chicken costume, the stumpy witch with a painted on mole, then the scary clown. I wish to never ever go through this again.
The Dream Costume: Based on my childhood horrors with Halloween, I went for the ultimate revenge costume in college: Cat woman. The full shabang, and man it was pretty awesome. I didn’t know it was my dream costume until I had put it on! I also decided that, as an adult, I would only wear costumes that were fun. My favorite so far has to be dressing up as a raver and I wore a pink and blue wig, bright green stretchy leggings, rainbow tutu, blacklight gloves, and I even had glow sticks. Yay.
Name: Hallah Danbouh (Mixed Media Content)
The Deceased Costume: I actually do not have a deceased costume just because in our typical Kuwaiti house, Halloween was never a thing. So, the fun costume hunt only started during my university days. But after reading what my coworkers have been dressed as, I sure as hell thank god for not having to go through what they have!
The Dream Costume: Okay, who’s going to be my other Grady twin from The Shining? We can creepily say “Come play with us. Forever, and ever, and ever.” That way I’ll be able to find my look alike and we can scare everyone the right way. I also want to pull off Eleven’s awesome 80’s look, but the collection at Levi’s sold out in minutes, so there goes that one.
Name: Ahmed Al-Ashab (Graphic Designer)
The Deceased Costume: Spiderman spanks, so hideous (eye roll up) I can’t bare to imagine myself walking around in that, let alone any Marvel character, maybe Batman!
The Dream Costume: Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Bane/Batman. A lot of these horror characters aren’t as scary as serial killers, these guys could exist! Myers is so creepy, wouldn’t want that guy hunting to kill me!
Name: Yasmin Gamal (Mixed Media Content)
The Deceased Costume: Thankfully my parents were uninterested in dressing me up. Yup, we are boring people.
The Dream Costume: I have however created my fair share of costumes for my daughter, who has been Luna Lovegood, Waldo from Where’s Waldo, Batgirl and my all-time favorite Thing 2 from The Cat in The Hat. The blue wig alone took weeks. We made and glued dozens of little blue pompoms to a swim cap, but it was totally worth it in the end.
Name: Umika Pidaparthy (Online Producer)
The Deceased Costume: I’ve actually loved every costume I’ve worn, is that weird?
The Dream Costume: I always get a kick out of costumes that are pun-ny (Taco BELLE anyone?). Given enough time and the right materials, I would love to make/wear something that pun lovers will get (or groan at)! But if I’m willing to splurge, then my other dream costume would be any fictional female character with her usual weapon of choice (we’re talking Okoye with her spear, The Bride from Kill Bill with her sword, Xena etc.), ideally covered in blood and battle wounds, to keep up with the Halloween spirit!
