It is hard to believe that the beautiful dresses and pieces that are part of H&M’s 2018 Conscious Exclusive collection were once fishing nets. The gorgeous white lace wedding dress and delicate grey-blue minidress that exude lightness and romance used to be waste. The sheer embroidered fabrics look sophisticated and rich, not exactly what you would imagine when you think reuse, reduce or recycle!
The collection heavily features ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated fiber from discarded nets and nylons. Recycled polyester and silver, TENCEL™, and organic linen are included too. Not only is it a way of collecting the waste, the manufacturing process supports clean oceans. Candlestick remains and silver sourced from scrap metal are used to create the accessories.
The clothing is inspired by the home of Swedish artists Karin and Carl Larsson, Lilla Hyttnäs. The iconic timber cottage is filled with beautiful paintings and detailed tapestries. The design team started with that in mind and created a contemporary eye-catching collection. From the womenswear, to the shoes and accessories, every piece is beautifully crafted and well made. A true testament to sustainable materials’ potential.
Christy Turlington Burns, the campaign’s model and founder of the Every Mother Counts organization calls the collection “really feminine and elegant”. And we totally agree!
This is the company’s seventh eco-friendly collection which shows commitment to the development of sustainable fashion on the long-term.
We love our clothes but we also love the environment just as much and want both to last for more than just our lifetime, so this is an initiative we are totally behind!
The Conscious Exclusive collection launches in selected H&M stores around the world on 19 April 2018. For more information check the H&M website.
