So, just like a lot of people in Kuwait right now you are probably stuck at home, wondering what to do with yourself. Well, except some of us who are working remotely. It might feel like we’re all collectively grounded but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy ourselves.
But first, in the immortal words of Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the great Rick, “Don’t Panic”.
Really, everything is going to be fine. Don’t spread rumors, make sure you check that the information that you are getting is coming from an official source and avoid checking twitter every 3 minutes, it is really terrible for your mental health.
With that said, we have a bunch of things that you can do that will make the coming days a lot more fun.
Order Online
When the news hit the internets and airwaves yesterday, there was a mass and mad run to local supermarkets. People were bulk buying everything from water to toilet paper and those huge jars of Nutella for comfort. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with worrying about access to your basic necessities but we now know that all coops will remain open so there’s no need to go crazy. We, on the other hand are using the power of technology and ordering online. There are loads of apps that can deliver your shopping directly to your door and you can avoid the crowds and any risk of catching a nasty bug.
Connect with family
This is a scary one. Your entire family being cooped up at home for two weeks can go very badly or very well depending on your planning. But, we think it can be the perfect opportunity to catch up with everyone and spend quality time with each other without the daily distractions. Establish some ground rules first. Distribute chores fairly so no one is left doing everything. Keep things tidy and clean. Ask everyone to suggest something they would like to do together. And make sure that everyone can find some personal space. You might be surprised and realize how much you actually enjoy their company. If you are on your own, pick up the phone (yes, old school phone calls still exist) and call someone instead of texting. Check on the more vulnerable members of your family too.
Bored? Boardgames are the answer
One way to connect with family is to challenge them to a friendly or super competitive game. From the most basic card games to something more strategic like Risk, there is bound to be one that works for everyone. You can even try inventing your own game. We even have a list of amazing locally made games that you might want to give a shot. Your local neighborhood baqala probably has playing cards stocked up and you can always order something online.
Clean up your act
We know about your messy junk drawer! No we are not omniscient, we have the same one at home too! Everyone is guilty of putting off tidying up for as long as they can. But now that you have some enforced free time, why not be productive and tackle those troublesome spots around your home and tidy them up. Why not go one step further? Detox your digital presence. Unfollow accounts that are just taking up space on your feeds and don’t make you happy. Clean your laptop and purge old and unneeded files.
Learn something new
You might not be able to attend a class, but you can definitely access the bazillion online courses, classes and training apps that can teach you everything including, how to become an astronaut. You can even learn how to make flour tortillas in 30 minutes. Maybe you are missing a skill that will help you get ahead at work, or you have always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, whatever it is, just start now.
Stay active
The gyms might be closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t move it! There’s an app for that too. Local app, A Hot Life has amazing video and audio guidance that will keep your muscles from atrophying. They’re even giving users 2 weeks free if you sign up now.
Reflect
No not the kind that you do in front of the mirror. But it is actually great to not have to worry about your todo list at work and to have some time to sit down and really think about what you want to do with your life. Do you want to shift careers? Invest in some personal growth? Make new friends? We are all caught up in the little things most of the time that we forget to look at the big picture. Make a list of all the things you want to change and all the things you want to make sure stay the same and just see where you end up.
