The Royal Britannia Kindergarten (RBK) is the brainchild of professional educationalist co-founders Dr. Hanan Al-Mutawa and Russell Byrne, who together have collective careers spanning over 50 years of experience. Since its inception, RBK has firmly set its sights on becoming one of the most respected preschools in the State of Kuwait. Through a detailed and involved curriculum helping young people make connections within themes, units of study and across academic disciplines, RBK offers a caring and friendly atmosphere with the exceptional quality of its qualified, experienced and well-motivated staff.
In January 2016, the flagship location of RBK opened its doors in Al-Siddeeq. Holding the loftiest of aspirations and a singleness of purpose, they proudly hold uncommonly high expectations for the children’s learning achievements. By ensuring a dynamic, inquiry-driven education of the highest standard, RBK aims to inspire young learners to develop their intellect, creativity, and character to become independent, adaptable, socially responsible, and internationally minded citizens. RBK’s mission is to be the leading, culturally diverse and family-oriented international preschool with English as the principal language of instruction.
This world of ours requires intellectual dexterity, independent thinking, unflagging curiosity, social agility, courage, social responsibility and uncompromising character. Therefore, the RBK community is deeply committed to ensuring young people are prepared for future greatness – to lead, to be honorable, ethical and adaptable, with high levels of creativity and innovation. RBK’s curriculum includes academic and pastoral elements and extracurricular activities. The academic curriculum is based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework and curriculum of England. Children at RBK experience an inquiry-driven approach to teaching and learning. Concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes and action are essential components. Knowledge is developed in an integrated, meaningful way into six trans-disciplinary themes of global significance.
RBK’s structure of programs provide a safe and positive environment that supports students in their attempts to acquire and improve academic and social skills in this ever changing and dynamic world. The encouragement of independence through having children take responsibility, having the opportunity to be involved in decision making, as well as the promotion of self-confidence through class based activities are significant features of the education we provide. The emphasis on developing and nurturing the whole child impacts not only on what they teach, but how they teach and conduct their day-to-day dealings with children.
In addition to learning the outcomes taught in the units of study, preschool children are encouraged to be curious and inquisitive. Respecting self and others, working through differences, and being part of a group are important as teachers and children build communities in their classrooms. RBK understands the importance of children assuming responsibility for their actions and see it as essential for their success. They also understand the importance of letting children develop a positive self-identity, compassion and tolerance for those whose perspectives and experiences may be different than their own. The program has been designed so that the children feel competent in themselves as learners. Finally, the creation of close ties with parents and families is a principal aim for all the staff. This is achieved through continuous and positive communication between teachers and parents on both formal and informal bases.
RBK also offers accredited activities that have been developed through dedicated environments with professionally qualified teachers and instructors. Examples of these activities include:
