When it comes to their creative concoctions and delicious flavor combinations, Jar continues to reign supreme. An entirely local concept – even the chef’s Kuwaiti! – Jar’s creations are both visually and sensory pleasing. With Jar’s two locations’ décor lending to the food’s presentation, we were ready to consume everything that came our way. On weekends, between 9 a.m. and noon, you can enjoy Jar’s very own take on breakfast, that vary from the classics to their very own renditions of the Shakshouka and Soufflé Pancakes. But since we were there for dinner, we had to keep our eyes on the prize – and it was glorious.
As you walk in, you’re quickly ushered to the seat of your choice and presented with their complimentary pumpkin chips and dip. Praise and poetry can be written and recited about this simple welcome plate, as the crunch and sweetness of the chips were beautifully balanced by the tartness of the dip. Making every sauce, dip and marinade in-house and from scratch, we knew we were in for a treat after we sampled that yummy, yummy dip.
To start off, we ordered a selection of salads and appetizers. Since we couldn’t decide on one salad, we ended up ordering both the Pumpkin Salad and Crispy Salad. Gorgeously layered, both salads arrived as towers of deliciousness that were instantly destroyed by our forks. The Crispy Salad offered layer upon layer of crunchy cabbage, crisp mixed greens and fried corn kernels finished with a sprinkling of cashew nuts.
Then, the appetizers started rolling in. The Grilled Edamame with the fried Brussel sprouts and green apple ponzu was refreshingly palatable. The star of the show was most definitely their Coffee Glazed Ribs. Served with a side of Asian potato chips and an invigorating mint and celery salad, the ribs themselves needed no knife to cut through them. Easily flaking under the pressure of a fork, the ribs were fantastically marinated and truly delightful. As we enjoyed our last bites of the ribs, the mains made their way to our table.
The mains came in the form of two pizzas, a burger and pasta. A deliciously baked Mushroom Pizza and classic Margherita made for incredible sharing dishes alongside our burger and pasta. Our Burrata Burger offered the perfect fusion of fresh burrata cheese, red grape reduction on top of a juicy burger patty, and the flavors married perfectly. As for the pasta dish, we went with the Baked Pink Pasta with the addition of tender chicken breast bites. With food this great, we couldn’t wait to see what they did with dessert.
For dessert, we opted for the Ultimate S’more, which comes in the form of a cookie stuffed with your chocolate of choice (we chose kinder) and topped with torched homemade marshmallow. Runny, sticky and glorious, the torched marshmallow was the perfect accompaniment to the chocolate-filled cookie. Needless to say, we ended our meal on a high-note and we cannot wait for our next visit to sample the rest of their offerings.
