Kotton is an adorable cafe and dessert shop based in the heart of Kuwait City. After its opening at the end of last year, the shop became a popular attraction for city goers due to the concept it’s presenting.
Kotton’s concept presents Japan’s affinity for perfect desserts, and the café is a brilliant meeting point for those seeking a cozy escape in the city. So when we learned that the type of desserts known in the land of the rising sun are made, cooked, and baked right at the corner of K-town’s richest street, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, we had to check it out!
The one dessert which took Kuwait by storm and became an instant hit is the Japanese Cheesecake. We absolutely came to this café to try the famous rounded cake serving up fluffiness and light textures, which is also Kotton’s specialty, and the dessert that was firstly introduced on their menu. One bite is never enough, as it will instantly disappear – this is the creamy cheesecake that is meant to dissolve in the mouth.
The textures and proportions of Kotton’s cheesecake options are so expertly made, we personally didn’t need to include any sauces to truly indulge ourselves in the creaminess of the original cheesecake. But for those who would like an extra kick of sweetness, they are providing six different sauces that you can order with your cheesecake. There is hazelnut, pistachio, lotus, caramel, white and milk chocolate, having a variety of sauces will simply amplify the flavors of the cheesecake itself. But this is totally up to you!
The Japanese Cheesecake also comes in different sizes, starting with large, medium, small, mini, and bites. Kotton has included different options for all cheesecake lovers out there, as they provide specific flavorful packages. The Kotton bites come in pistachio bites and mixed bites, where you don’t have to order the extra sauce, as the bites come infused with them. If you’d like to get your hands on these special packages, you must place your order beforehand, either at the shop, or on Carriage to be delivered right at your doorstep.
Their most recent item, and becoming a quick best seller on their menu is the Zaku, which essentially means crunchy in Japanese. The dessert is basically an innovative twist on classic choux pastry but shaped like sticks. When you take a first look at it, you might mistake it for Churros, as it’s extremely crunchy on the outside, but unbelievably creamy on the inside. Kotton has three flavors for the Zaku, the most selling one is the original, which is filled with custard cream. In addition to the original, Zaku is served in both hazelnut and pistachio cream filled versions.
If you also like your sweets with a sharp, bitter drink on the side, Kotton provides several coffee offerings, but their most successful drink, however, is the Kotton Latte. At first, the shop was shaping up as the perfect destination in town for exquisite desserts, but it slowly developed its own drinks and beverages that go hand-in-hand with the dessert items they are providing for their frequent customers.
Kotton is placed in such a perfect location in Kuwait City, and weekends are usually super packed at the shop. They have an outdoor seating area that’s ideal for those midday breaks, and when lunchtime comes, people tend to unwind with one of their impeccable desserts, and delicious hot and cold drinks. The shop will continue to introduce new items, or even surprise us with a secret menu. At Kotton, there will always be something new to try out!
