We don’t know about you, but we’re still spending most of the weekend at home. Between social distancing and the scorching heat, we’d rather chill in the AC. We’ve watched all the Netflix, organized all the closets and baked all the sourdough. What we needed was something interesting, engaging and fun for all ages. And it comes in the form of little nubby plastic bricks called LEGO.
You’ve probably played with them and might even own some bricks yourself especially if you have kids at home. There are some amazing kits out there that will keep you entertained all day. The LEGO Architecture line is one of our favorites. Not only can you put together iconic buildings from all over the world, they make great decor pieces. Nothing screams cultured like contemporary architecture on bookshelves made of plastic bricks.
For something more futuristic, you can purchase a robot building kit. We got the BOOST set, which is quite affordable. Constructing the robot took us hours, only to just start having real fun; a phone app lets you program it to do all sorts of fun things. We only built the robot, you can also turn it into a guitar and a little cute dog among other things.
Then there are different ways to enjoy LEGO without having to follow the instructions. If you love organizing things, you can start by sifting through your LEGO and splitting them by color or size or both. It is a therapeutic way to spend an evening and once you are done you will really appreciate the order.
If you have a strong Minifig (the little men and women characters) collection going, you can build a Minifig display. There are lots of great ideas on Pinterest that can help inspire you. While you are on the site, check out LEGO hacks and ideas. There are so many out-of-the-box designs that you can build that are functional and will help add some pops of color in your life.
We found so many wonderful ideas like an iPhone and Apple Watch docking and charging station that only needed a small amount of basic blocks and is the perfect bedside table companion. You can find so many smart ideas from pen holders to picture frames.
You can even level up into more complicated designs like puzzle boxes and drawers with complicated locking mechanisms. That is the beauty of LEGO, you can start with the simplest building block and go as far as your imagination will let you and only continue to grow. But beware, if you get hooked, this little hobby might take over all of your weekends going forward.
