Ramadan is always meaningful for us. It is the time when everyday moments become remarkable. We get to see our friends and loved ones more often, we indulge in delicious food, we find the time to be more introspective than usual and we remember to breathe again and look inwards for peace. As usual, IKEA is helping us making sure that our homes are a meaningful and welcoming space for all of that.
This year we would like to take those things with us into the rest of the year, beyond Eid. We’ve been loving Extraordinary at the Ordinary Magazine from IKEA, and this issue is giving us great ideas to do just that. We’ve put together a list of our favorite tips and hacks that will help make cooking more satisfying while fasting and being the best host ever for our family and friends at the same time.
Building a Cozy Corner
Everyone needs their little sanctuary at home. We had never given this much thought, but a dedicated space for meditating, praying, and finding one’s center can be truly life changing. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just a comfortable chair, some side lighting and you’ve got yourself a little corner where you can find respite from the world and recharge during Ramadan and the rest of the year.
Everyone is Welcome
Having more family members and extra guests is something we’re all familiar with. And every year we ask ourselves, why don’t we meet up more often? This year, we’re investing in making that easier. Decorate our sofa with extra cushions that can be placed on the floor or use the footstool as an extra seating option when we have more visitors. An expanding dining table and extra dishes from IKEA are just some of the ways we’re redesigning our home to make it easier to invite our family and friends more regularly, so we can enjoy their company without worrying about logistics. And with the portable trolly we can add space to our kitchen by using it to store bulky items, or to wheel everything to the dinning table in one go, rather than going back and forth.
Meal Preparing
The holy month comes with its bittersweetness stressing about food and how to prepare and manage to finish all these meals without complete exhaustion. At the end no one likes to spend the Ramadan only in the kitchen. The IKEA special Ramadan Edition helps us become a clever cook. It is all about pre-preparing. The magazine introduces simple tips and ideas for smart planning and pre-preparing our Ramadan meals in advance and save our time, energy, and money. IKEA also shared the best tips on how to store food in a supper smart way. With the IKEA food storage solutions Ramadan meals will go further and easier and will keep our fridge organized.
Eating Better by Cooking Differently
There are some dishes that most of us only enjoy during Ramadan and Eid. The IKEA Magazine includes amazing, delicious recipes created by Ahmed Alzamel in collaboration with IKEA to try and enjoy this Ramadan with your family and friends. We’ve been inspired to try them all. Visit IKEA.com/kw to check out the IKEA magazine and discover all the tasty and easy recipes!
Including the kids
Having young kids at home is always challenging. They’re cute, full of energy, need to be always entertained and kept safe. We were inspired by the IKEA magazine to create a little art corner in the kitchen, so they can draw garlands from MÅLA paper and make art at the kitchen walls to get Ramadan vibe while we cook. Older kids can be included in other cooking activities like chopping, peeling and portioning things. A home is a place where we can create bonds and memories, so let’s make sure it is designed that way.
Pretty Lighting
Lanterns always enhance Ramadan’s feeling with their glow that creates a welcoming cozy atmosphere, and we love that. We’ve also been rethinking the way we create ambiance in our rooms with the use of light. Ceiling lights, the floor lamps and side lighting will give a room character. This Ramadan, we’re going to add more lighting options to our home for different vibes and keep that going for the entire year. There are so many fabulous options to choose from IKEA. From wonderful LED string lights to wall fixtures and so much in between.
