One of the problems facing the Arab World today is the emigration of our smartest and brightest talent. Some of the reasons behind this include the lack of access to funding, outdated technology, and the absence of a truly integrated support system for these brilliant minds to bring their ideas to life and launch them to the world.
To address this problem, Zoomaal, the leading crowdfunding platform of the Arab World, launched Maker Hackathon, the first hardware movement born in the Arab World. The first Maker Hackathon event will be held in Cairo from February 5th – 7th , followed by Amman from February 19th – 21st.
Maker Hackathon is a 3-day event where participating teams will have access to all the tools
and equipment they need in order to design and develop a hardware prototype including: 3D Printers, Arduino boards, littleBits pre-programmed chips, and the latest technologies for hardware development. Participants will also have access to training sessions, one-on-one mentorship, and on-going support on hardware pieces that will be available at the event, as well as expert help with product design and manufacturing.
By the end of the 3 days, winning teams with the best prototypes from each category will receive matched funding to launch their projects, along with other exclusive prizes from Maker Hackathon partners and sponsors.
To participate in Maker Hackathon, it is not a requirement to have a background in electronics, software development, or hardware design. However it is a requirement to have an open mind to learn new things, the creativity to come up with great ideas, and the ability to produce something amazing in a short amount of time.
