MANGO’s new Autumn/Winter 2018 campaign feels intimate and almost familiar. Like being invited to a huge picnic and your friends brought their friends. You might not know everyone, but everybody fits in and belongs easily.
Mario Sorrenti invites us to view the daily lives of his protagonists through his lens. And no wonder it feels so personal. His protagonists included members of his family, friends and even their pets.
Activist and model Adwoa Aboah shows up with her sister Kesewa and her cousin Alewya cementing the idea of family behind the campaign. The ambassador of the men’s line, Adrien Brody, is passionate about animals. Which is why his dog is his companion in the picture. Pictured together are also Amber Valletta and Carolyn Murphy, real-life close friends and international models. The cast also included Skate legend Steve Olson and his son Alex, the artist Langley Fox and the famous stylists Zoe Bedeaux and Helena Tejedor a reflection of how eclectic life can be.
The legendary Primal Scream’s “Moving on up” is the soundtrack for the campaign video. The campaign’s message is obvious, it is all about personal ties, close relationships and family. It is also a message of an interwoven diversity that creates out togetherness.
The new collection is a representation of the brand’s move towards a new direction in garment design. Evolving towards a contemporary aesthetic and embracing higher quality fabrics. It is all about being timeless but letting go of conventionalisms.
The campaign is a throwback to 70’s inspired animal prints, rich colors and volumes. Chunky knits, long sleeves with rounded necks all come together, creating a cohesive collection. Detailed stitching adorns denim, elevating it to a whole new level.
The men’s collection is even less subtle in its 70’s influences. Suits and outerwear come in ochre hued colors. If this were a movie Corduroy would be the leading actor, supported by leather. Flecks, braid reliefs and diamonds add layers and texture to the chunky knits that really stand out in the grays, stone and brown hues. Accessories bring the entire collection together.
It is a collection after our own hearts. We want to dress up and look like our parents did when they were younger. We want to invite all of our friends, family and furry felines and throw a huge backyard barbecue while looking refined and eat smore’s by the fire.
