“We started Marcha as a kind of escape plan from our corporate lives,” shares Athoub, smiling as she recalls the journey. “It was during one of those mind-numbing meetings when the idea first came to me. I thought, ‘Why not create something that combines luxury with practicality?’ So I brought it up with Reem, and she was immediately on board.”
Reem jumps in, “We had this late-night brainstorming session, fueled by a bag of chips and a lot of excitement. We were tired of seeing the same boring bags that either looked stylish but fell apart after a few uses or were durable but lacked any kind of flair. So we decided, why not do both? That’s how Marcha started.”
Marcha didn’t start in a fancy office or design studio—it started in a living room. The duo created their first prototypes using fabric scraps and a lot of duct tape. But what they lacked in resources, they made up for with determination.
“We didn’t have a solid business plan or anything like that,” Athoub admits. “Our first design was just a concept we posted on Instagram, thinking, ‘Let’s see what happens.’ The response was overwhelming! We hadn’t even planned for so many orders.”
“We literally turned my living room into a mini factory,” Reem laughs. “We were packaging and shipping bags ourselves, but it quickly became obvious we needed help. That’s when we started partnering with suppliers and building out our logistics.”
Marcha bags are known for their elegant design and practical features. So, how do they balance these two essential elements? “For us, luxury isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about the experience,” says Reem. “We’re obsessed with the little details, like the feel of the fabric and the durability of the zippers. Athoub adds, “Our goal is to make something that fits seamlessly into your routine. Whether you’re commuting to work or traveling to a new destination, we want Marcha to be your reliable, stylish companion.” As Marcha continues to expand, the brand has set its sights on global markets. While they’ve seen strong demand in Kuwait, their products are also gaining traction in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
“We’ve been blown away by the support from our customers in the Middle East,” says Athoub. “Especially in Saudi Arabia—there’s such a strong appetite for luxury, but also for practicality. To meet this demand, we’re working on setting up a fulfillment center there, which will make it easier to serve our customers quickly and efficiently.” Reem nods in agreement, “We also want to tap into the U.S. market. It’s a huge step, but we believe our bags offer something unique that resonates with people looking for both fashion and functionality.”
One of the keys to Marcha’s success is the dynamic partnership between Athoub and Reem. While Reem brings her creative vision to the table, Athoub handles the business side of things, making sure everything runs smoothly.
“We complement each other,” says Reem. “Athoub is great at seeing the big picture, while I tend to focus on the details. Together, we’re able to balance creativity with strategy.” Athoub adds, “We’ve learned so much from working together.
Communication and respect are everything. There are moments when we disagree, but we always find a way to move forward because we share the same vision for Marcha.”
So what’s next for Marcha? Their ultimate goal is nothing short of world domination—at least in the world of everyday accessories. “We’re aiming to become the world’s most coveted everyday bag,” says Athoub with a laugh. “It’s ambitious, but we’re not afraid to dream big. We’re working on partnerships with influencers, creating content that inspires, and most importantly, listening to our customers to keep improving.”
Reem adds, “We’re just getting started. The journey has been incredible so far, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us next.”
