No brand insignia is as globally recognizable as the golden arches of McDonald’s. While we’ve gotten so used to what these golden arches promise us in terms of unforgettable flavors, there’s more to them than meets the eye. McDonald’s mission is to always be an active member of any local community it belongs to. When McDonald’s Kuwait opened its doors in 1994, they took that core driving principle to heart.
Owned and operated locally by Al Maousherji Catering Company, McDonald’s Kuwait constantly strives to engage the people of Kuwait through a number of different platforms that seek to foster a true sense of community and drive positive impact. While McDonald’s Kuwait social responsibility program continues to be broad and diverse, supporting a wide range of local organizations and initiatives, it focuses primarily on two key platforms: supporting people with disabilities in the community and championing the local sports culture.
A decades-long history of advocating for people with disabilities
Supporting people with disabilities has continued to be one of the top social responsibility priorities at McDonald’s is changing the world, one community at a time By bazaar staff McDonald’s, and it constitutes the cornerstone of its community engagement program. Today, McDonald’s remains committed to doing everything possible to champion and advocate for those living with disabilities within the local community. The company whole-heartedly embraces a spirit of diversity and inclusivity, and actively encourages everyone else to follow suit.
Over the past two decades, McDonald’s has worked with a multitude of local community groups, civic society organizations and NGOs to help those with intellectual and physical disabilities fully integrate into the community. More importantly, they’re extremely proud of the long-standing and very special relationship that McDonald’s Kuwait has with the community of people with disabilities in Kuwait.
Now more than ever, McDonald’s offers its moral and financial support to this very special community through a series of its own-led programs as well as a number of sponsorships. Most recently, they sponsored the Kuwait National Team for People with Intellectual Disabilities, who participated in the Middle East & North Africa Special Olympics Regional Games, which took place in the United Arab Emirates’ capital of Abu Dhabi.
However, the most cherished and beloved McDonald’s tradition is a series of private screenings that are specially organized for children with disabilities. The children love watching the latest family-friendly blockbuster hits. Through the magic of movies, the company has for years sought to spread joy amongst children with disabilities in Kuwait, doing what the brand does best: drawing smiles on the faces of people.
A key supporter of sports culture: globally and locally
Nothing says commitment to sports like officially sponsoring two of the world’s largest sporting events. McDonald’s has a long-storied history of serving as an official sponsor for the Olympics and the World Cup.
Locally, the company is committed to raising awareness about the importance of physical activity in people’s daily lives and support the local sports scene. Throughout the year, McDonald’s spearheads several of its own sports initiatives, and also seeks to support and sponsor a diverse range of local sporting programs and events.
Up-and-coming athletes in Kuwait know they can find financial and moral support from McDonald’s Kuwait. Recently, McDonald’s sponsored the Kuwait National Jet Ski Team, which went on to compete in the World Jet Ski Championship.
All in all, as it continues to be one of the country’s leading quick service food brands, McDonald’s Kuwait still has one goal firmly in mind: to be a proud corporate citizen working with and giving back to the local community.
