Tucked away in the side streets of Shaab Al Bahary, a small shawerma boutique emerges from amidst the tall buildings surrounding it. Shabby chic, almost rustic and authentically oriental; it’s the take out place to get your shawerma fix with style. Wood is a clear theme in the culinary genius, Ahmed El Bader’s most recent, delectably devious creation.
Wood exterior and interior, the waiting area inside is uplifting with its spanking new vision. Creating seats in the wall by fashioning a piece of wood to protrude for those inside to sit comfortably while they wait; if you prefer to walk in rather than order from your car that is. If you decide to wait in the car and enjoy the carhop service, or you’ve called to make an order and stopped by to for a pick up, you can watch as the shawerma engraver slices off delicate pieces of the meat or chicken and crafts your sandwich with precision.
Opening its doors to the public in August 2010, this little shawerma place is big on flavor. The scent of the spices, picked carefully to enhance the taste and tantalize your taste buds, seep through the takeout bag and fill your senses. With so many choices available, you can pick and choose what tickles your fancy. Gone are the days of the precut shawerma wraps that drip with grease, and enter the revolution of the freshly cut meats and fresh veggies wrapped for your delight. With two choices of meat, beef or chicken, regardless of what you choose you’re guaranteed a light yet filling meal. Everything is freshly made to your order, to your satisfaction.
They serve five different types of shawerma, eight sandwiches, and five different chutneys to go with them. For those of you that prefer non-meat based sandwiches and wraps, indulge in the falafel wrap, grilled halloumi, or labna wraps. Their choices of appetizers are just as palatable; everything from fries to jalapeño peppers. For those opting for the lighter choices, rejoice (!), they have ten different selections of salads for all tastes. Keeping true to the oriental flavors, you’re guaranteed a meal that will satisfy your cravings. Now the only real question here would be; would you like it served on Lebanese bread or baguette?
