The E-Football initiative, comprising of E-Sports competition with a compelling twist that was held in three different locations across Kuwait this September and October has its crowned a champion, the Juvi team! The winning team, which included Khaled Al Samer and Khaled Assad, managed to clinch the title of champions at the Mr. D0ne’s Game On Kuwait Final, beating seven other final teams.
Abdulaziz Alshehri, who also goes by the alias Mr. D0ne, is a Red Bull E-Sports athlete and the first-ever player from the Middle East to win the FIFA eWorld Cup. The Saudi Arabian player won what was then the FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final in Munich, Germany in 2015, and ultimately became an icon of the E-Sports world. He had the privilege of meeting lifelong football legends Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Lionel Messi.
With smooth and magnetic skills, Mr. D0ne’s now focusing on developing the profile of E-Football in the Middle East for amateur gaming enthusiasts in the region, starting with MrD0ne’s Game On in Kuwait. The event, which started on September 26 had five qualifiers at two different locations in Kuwait. Each qualifier registered teams of two to participate in 16 rounds per qualifier event. Each qualifier acquired winning teams who succeeded to the Finals that took place on October 17 at 360 Mall.
For the game, the rules are fairly simple, yet intense and full of suspense. There are four players per game, each two in a team are assigned with only one controller per team. The game begins regularly with two players, however, the gist of it all is that each team member must tag and switch with their partner within the game when: a team gets scored against, when a red card is given, and at half time.
Each team was also granted one free switch when the ball is not in play. Teams who’s score ended up in a tie played a Golden Goal round, which led to a penalty shootout switching players per shoot. Sounds intense, right?! 151 teams battled it out in the qualifiers, and only the top eight thirsty teams made it to the on-ground National Final, which was held at 360 Mall on October 17.
Mr. D0ne’s Game On in Kuwait was held in partnership with X-cite by Alghanim Electronics, Quality Net, Playstation 4, Acqua Eva, The Hub, Plamo Con, Gamma Game and 360 Mall. Media partners are Kuwait Times and Scope TV who covered this popular event.
