Students will learn how to make non-toxic paint using natural materials, and print or paint Sadu motifs. Natural materials include household supplies and easily available plants that can be used to make paint! It is aimed to show that even the simple things that we do not consider paint, can give us different colors and shades, and provide an introductory familiarity with natural dyes (which we will use to dye wool in another upcoming class).
Students will take home skills they can easily use to easily create their own ecological paint, some knowledge about natural dyes and pigment-giving plants. They will also have artwork of the Sadu House that they have done in the class.
The course is open to all, including artists, environmentalists, scientists, men and women, and does not have an age limit.
Time: 9am – 12pm Saturday, December 12.
Place: Sadu House, Gulf Road (next to the National Museum). Sadu House is located on the Gulf Road, after the roundabout near the Grand Mosque, in between the National Library of Kuwait, and Kuwait National Museum and Planetarium. Prepare to make a U-turn at the next turn, after you see a turn that is blocked.
Other courses on Natural Dyes on wool (2 day course), Pattern Design on Fabric (6 day course), Printing on Fabric (TBC), and Linoleum Printmaking (TBC), Shibori Japanese Tie-Dye Level 2 (1 day course) will also be offered on future dates.
