Coffee’s mythos has always fascinated us. Who was the first person who thought of using these little unassuming beans to make the drink that powers humanity? The origin story of coffee is just as captivating as that of any other superhero (as told by Nespresso below).
In the ancient highlands of Ethiopia, Kaldi the young goat-herder found his goats in a state of euphoric hyperactivity. Curious, he tried the cherries that his goats were eating and felt elevated and danced with his goats. A monk caught them and thought that the cherries must be evil and tried to burn them. Luckily for humanity and us, he became enchanted with the delicious aroma, saved the beans from the fire, added water and used them to make what we now know as Arabica coffee.
We would like to thank those goats!

Robusta’s superpower is thought to be unity. Families in Buganda, now known as Uganda, would split a single bean in half. That bean would be shared between two people from different families. They believed that this united the families and their bloodlines forever in friendship and loyalty.

These are inspiring stories, which is why Nespresso have decided to celebrate them. By designing two new limited-edition coffees. Arabica Ethiopia Harrar and Robusta Uganda have just been released. The Arabica is fruity but still remarkably velvety and has flowery notes. The more intense Robusta is rich in cocoa notes while still being sweet and pleasurable.
As if the stories and enthralling coffee were not enough, London-based illustrator Marianna Rodrigues designed the new capsule sleeves. Vibrant and vivacious are the words that come to mind when one looks at the sleeves. The artwork depicts her reverence for the mythical origin and respect for the ingrained heritage of coffee.
You can grab these limited-edition sleeves right now from Nespresso, but you should hurry because we plan on hoarding some for ourselves!
