One of the most exciting players in the world Brazilian Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, affectionately known as Neymar Jr, challenges 60 teams to “Outplay Them All” this summer at the Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr. which provides extracurricular educational and sporting activities to the most socially disadvantaged children and their families in Praia Grande, Brazil.
A private, non-profit association dedicated to social causes, Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr was set up by Neymar Jr. and his family. It is located in Jardim Glória, in Praia Grande, where Neymar Jr spent much of his childhood growing up and learning football skills. The Institute is an 8,400m2 education and sporting complex catering for 2,470 underprivileged children aged 7-14 and their families.
The competition that Neymar Jr has created is used for social good and has been taken up across the globe. The Neymar Jr’s Five is an exciting game of five-a-side with simple rules. Each match lasts an intense ten minutes, there’s no goalkeeper and whenever a team scores, the opposition loses a player. You need to outplay them all to be the last team standing! The tournament is open to teams of five to seven players aged 16 to 25. In each team two players over 25 are allowed in the squad as well.
While over 100,000 participants were involved last year, Neymar Jr’s Five 2018 is set to be even bigger as more players than ever will get the chance to experience this beautiful game. This year across the globe has seen women only teams and mixed teams joining the competition in some countries.
Country qualifiers were held over 5 action-packed days with teams and players displaying skills of finesse and sportsmanship. Twelve teams made it to the Kuwait National Final. The competition was sponsored by Intersport, Platinum, Talabat, and Acqua Eva, and took place on May 4 at Boulevard Salmiya.
In front of hundreds of excited spectators, the final kicked off with four groups of three teams, each playing against both other teams in the group. Only two teams made it from each group to begin the knock out phase. Spectators waited anxiously as the final four teams, “Back Remuntada”, “Al Aalami”, “Bayern Neverlusen”, and “Bader Hamed”, went head to head in the semi-final. Ultimately, the final game was between last year’s champions, Back Remuntada and this year’s newcomers, Al Aalami.
Al Aalami surprised participants and spectators alike, as they secured the winning goal, earning the title of Kuwait National Champions. bazaar can’t wait to follow this team’s progress at the Neymar Junior’s Five World Final on July 21.
