Are you a part of a company or own a business and just don’t know why it isn’t succeeding the way you expect it? Do you feel unfulfilled in the work place and on the verge of giving up? Enter Omar Hosn; the region’s very own “Rescue Ranger!” Though he doesn’t do any physical rescuing, he wants to help you get out of your rut and he happens to be living and practicing right here in Kuwait. The wonderful thing about Omar is his honesty and acceptance of every individual’s uniqueness and his belief in the positivity and passion in whatever you do.
Though he insists that he’s “no superhero but just an ordinary guy,” this truly inspirational Lebanese family man has partnered and worked with speakers and gurus like Bob Proctor and John C. Maxwell. “My mission is to help people understand how to think through their own habits in order to transform results globally, unleash their full potential, realize their leadership capacity and create a happier, more balanced life,” stated Omar. Though his business mainly focuses towards corporate clients and groups, the self-proclaimed problem solver broadcasts his words via social media, radio, and television, because he genuinely wants to help. “I don’t judge anybody. I don’t care if someone is rich, poor, black, white, purple, yellow, or practicing whatever faith. I recognize that we are all human beings who are capable of greatness, and that’s a beautiful thing.” It becomes evident as you speak to Omar that accepting and helping people really is his passion. The public speaker uses his methods even in interviews, maintaining positive body language and relatable eye contact as he colorfully shares his amazing life views and dishes on how to find your happiness.
Would you call yourself a life coach?
It isn’t exactly life coaching, but I believe that everything is part of life coaching. If you want to coach someone to find success in a certain area of life, you have to teach him or her how to balance his or her lives. For example, imagine life as a pie chart or a wheel and divide it into the major aspects that effect you: career, relationships, health, money etc.; and it acts as a turning wheel. If one part of that wheel is off or unsatisfactory, then the journey will be uncomfortable. What my consultancy business offers is leadership and sales coaching- which is similar to life coaching, but its more into taking people towards a certain career path, helping them to achieve better results, guiding them through- but not giving them advice or telling them what to do.
What inspired you towards this career path?
2004 was a dark time for me. Though I was doing well at work, I felt that I could be doing better. One day, while watching Oprah, Rhonda Byrne, the author of The Secret was a guest on the show discussing her book. That day, with only KD 21 in my bank account, I went to Virgin to purchase the book and CD for KD 19. 25 days later, I had signed a contract and moved from being a salesperson to a GM, my salary multiplied by five and my life began to change. Then in 2010, I gave it all up to go to Lebanon and open my own business- the business we now all know as Spirit, Mind and Body Coaching and Consultancy.
What is the greatest achievement in having a job such as this one?
There are many achievements, and they’re all great, but to me, my greatest personal achievement is how I’ve managed to turn my life around. Growing up in Lebanon during the civil war, I faced many hardships. I’m lucky and maybe I’m getting more than I deserve, but I’ve come a very long way. Another great achievement is how I’m getting my word out. I’ve recently signed with mbc.net to host two-minute webisodes that send out positive messages to battle daily struggles of life, such as time management and anger management. I feel that the webisodes as well as my 8-9 AM segment on the 99.7 FM Breakfast Show are ways for me to share my life-changing ideas with everybody. I want the public to hear what I have to say and to utilize these words to find the change they are capable of.
Any success stories?
I have coached some good friends and helped them change their lives, and many others who have seen improvement in sales and their careers. I believe that the testimony comes from people you’ve worked with, not from yourself. My success stories only involve influencing people in a positive way.
Does it ever get challenging?
Helping people change their attitudes is a challenge in itself. It’s human instinct to make excuses for yourself to put off finding your happiness and potential by saying “I was too tired” or “I had to eat”- to that I say, what’s more important; eating today, or living tomorrow? There is only one corner in the universe you are certain to improve, it’s yourself, and you can’t help somebody unless they want to help themselves.
And what in your opinion is the secret to success?
There isn’t only one key to success- it’s impossible. If there were one key to success, everybody would be successful. Until you figure out every aspect of your life and find true happiness and content, then you will be successful.
Do you exclusively practice in Kuwait?
Though I am based in the Middle East, I still have clients all over the world through Skype and online correspondence. Since I’m part of an international partnership with Bob Proctor and John C. Maxwell, I’m not exclusively local – but I feel like I’m needed here in the Middle East. Why would I relocate? The West may think they need me, but there are other greats who are located there and willing to help. Do what you do best where you do it best.
Any encouraging words you have to our readers?
It doesn’t matter what you’re passionate about, but just start it. The moment you start, you’ll see the second step. It’s not about creating a living; it’s about creating a life.
