Being the pizza fiends that we are, when we caught wind of the new pizza place that opened its doors at the new View Tower in Salmiya – we just had to investigate. A terrifically extensive menu, Pizza Square doesn’t offer an Italian pizza – no, their ethos is America’s New York-style pizza, with a twist. The expertly prepared doughy crust with a beautiful base that carries the toppings brilliantly – fold the pizza in half and just bite straight through. Their pizza creations blew our mind and we couldn’t stop munching on the salads and appetizers. Everything on the menu looked and sounded amazing so we just had to try as much as we could.
Vintage-inspired art hangs on the walls of this diner-like space. A relaxed environment with an authentic vibe – owner Abdulrazzaq Alanjari found his calling in the world with all things pizza. With creations like the Sloppy Joe Pizza – basically a lasagne on a pizza and covered with delicious cheese – Pizza Square can do no wrong. But let us not get too caught up with the pizzas just yet when there are many tasty creations in their appetizers to get to! To start us off, we ordered two variations of wings: the Golden Wings and the BBQ Wings. Their homemade sauces were so on point that you will be slurping your fingers long after you’ve consumed the wings. No drop of their delectable homemade sauces will be left untouched, trust us on this one. As far as salads went, their BBQ Chicken Salad, Nacho Salad and Quinoa Salad were incredibly refreshing. Every bite brought in new flavors and textures, and we simply can’t forget about those crunchy almonds in the fragrant Quinoa salad. The Nacho Appetizer consisted of wonderfully golden nacho chips, sour cream, the most perfect guacamole, and a helping of chopped olives. Its presentation in a heated skillet topped with melted cheese offered all around goodness.
The most interesting part of the appetizer menu was the Pizza Square take on a deconstructed Garlic Bread dish with a three-layer cheese and tomato dip. Use the freshly baked garlic bread to dip right into the beautiful cheesy tomato-based sauce and consume happily. Comfort food in dip form – it was the stuff of legends!
Moving onto their pizzas, shall we? We at bazaar usually judge a pizza place by their Margherita Pizza – and theirs was absolutely divine. So cheesy, we couldn’t wait to try out the rest! The Vegetarian, Hawaiian (the pineapple was so good), Pepperoni, Four Cheese, BBQ Chicken, and Seafood Pizzas were so incredibly yummy that we literally could not stop eating. But the pièce de résistance was definitely their House Pizza – a white-based pizza sans sauce with potatoes, caramelized onions, rosemary, and Parmesan – this pizza was spectacular.
Now that you know what we’ve devoured – don’t judge us for having an awesome job – we just had to tackle desserts. Make your way down to Pizza Square for the best Pecan Pie in the city! Trust us, it is that good! And of course, their Pizza Cookie is not to be missed – a skillet-baked chocolate chip cookie that is just genius. To finish off our feast, we couldn’t help but try their Lemon Bar. Refreshingly delicious, it was a flawless end to this memorable meal.
