The art of portraiture, recording one’s features through various artistic mediums such as photography, painting, sculpture, is one that is today overshadowed by the age of digital art, modern typography, and magical special effects. Portraits, in their pure classical form, have long attracted the attention of regular bystanders and historians alike throughout time, giving us deeper insight into bygone eras and the various styles and skills of artists evolved.
When we found out about Ahmed Isa Al-Dosari, a Bahraini freelance artist specialized in Portraiture, or portrait pieces, we were immediately intrigued. Can this artistic soul seek to revive what was once forgotten?
A self trained artist since childhood, 31-year-old Ahmed also dabbles in the realms of the landscapes and the abstract, but his focus on portraiture is one that borders on fascination. He believes that people from all walks of life will find portraitures interesting. In this area of art, one’s admiration of art is irrelevant, as the subject holds the viewer’s attention. Whether to admire or mock the figure immortalized, people will always find these pieces as a special point of interest.
The most important facet that makes any given portrait all the more fascinating, according to Ahmed, are its intricate details. Using charcoal, acrylic, and graphite pens for most of his work, he weaves incredible textures and details, such as the slightest light and shades, into his pieces. He adds, “I like to focus on everything in a drawing to make it look like the actual photo or view point. I also use Oil, Water colors, Pastel, and Color pencils.” When observing any given portrait, it’s amazing when an expert likeness is achieved, let alone inciting an emotion, which he faultlessly creates with his pieces.
Ahmed’s relationship with art is inseparable with the very notion of how he perceives life, and if he were to define it, it would translate what life speaks of, into a masterpiece. In the future, Ahmed wishes to open an art studio and even a gallery. He looks to become well known in reviving an almost forgotten realm of classical portraitures, adding, “I hope to participate in exhibitions world wide, adopting my passion as a full time profession.”
