The perfect sandwich is different for each person. Some people claim it doesn’t exist in this reality, and while they might absolutely be right, we’re open to the next best thing. Starting from the bread, filling, sauces to your toasting options, the sandwich or a version of it exists in almost every cuisine and the combinations and options are unlimited. These are the ones that the bazaar staff chose to defend!
Ali Mikail (Intern)The Perfect Sandwich: it has to be a pulled beef rib sandwich marinated in some barbecue sauce with caramelized onions, mushrooms and an amazing cheese blend crowned all with a classic slice from some homemade sourdough bread.
Where you can get one: well luckily for us it’s located right here in Kuwait! Melting point in Souq Sharq offers one of the most delicious sandwiches I have ever tasted, the beef pulled ribs are so tender, their special cheese blend is to die for and topping it all off with their iconic slice of sourdough bread makes every crunchy yet juicy bite to die for. This shouldn’t even be a debate, the BBQ street sandwich in melting point has to be in the top 3 beef sandwiches of all time in Kuwait, period.

The Perfect Sandwich: It’s gotta be said, I make the perfect sandwich at home with all the trimmings, stuffed with veggies, and bread buttered with salted butter. But, failing that a simple buffalo mozzarella and fresh, perfectly ripe tomato sandwich in the ideal bread is always satisfying.
Where you can get one: Princi in Grand Avenue, The Avenues has a Focaccia Caprese sandwich that I’ve been addicted to since restaurants opened up again, and every time I’m in the Avenues, indulging in this is my luxury treat. The focaccia has a delicious bite to it, the mouthfeel crispy then chewy, the layered textures when you bite into the sandwich providing simple yet nuanced pleasure. I like to take my Focaccia Caprese home and anticipate the enjoyment, but my advice would be, ask staff not to wrap your sandwich in wax paper or place it in a box; put the sandwich directly into a Princi signature cellophane sleeve, as this keeps the focaccia’s oils better than any other packaging. This is just my personal taste of course!

The Perfect Sandwich: A well seasoned shawarma, with the freedom to put as much garlic and tahini sauce as I please without being judged. Also, french fries must be a part of the sandwich itself.
Where you can get one: IKEA, yes as out of place as that sounds, their chicken shawarma is life changing, and they allow me to express my desire to drench it with as much sauce as I’d like. Of course that was pre-COVID, now I’m not sure if they still leave the tahini and garlic bottles outside for you to use. They’re tiny so make sure to order 2-3 shawarmas!

The Perfect Sandwich: There’s nothing like starting your day with eggs and avocado with some bread. Make that into a sandwich, season it well, and it transforms into a quick and compact breakfast! From whole grain slices to an English muffin, the options for your bread are endless. Your eggs can be fried, scrambled, poached, or even vegan by using tofu instead! Customize it with cheese like cheddar or add veggies like onion, tomato, coriander, baby spinach, and you’ve got a meal packed with fresh wholesome ingredients! I personally love to sprinkle some red chili flakes or green chili to give it a kick of flavor.
Where you can get one: Breakfast/brunch places in Kuwait are usually the best places to get your egg and avocado fix. Everyone has their personal favorite combination, but there are two places that get it just right for me. The Breakfast Club has been a brunch staple in Kuwait and their Avo Sandwich has been my go-to weekend morning treat! Guacamole, light cheese and scrambled egg with multi-grain bread is certainly a big sandwich to have and it’s worth it! The crunchy toast is balanced out with the soft textures of the egg, avocado, and cheese. Simple and satisfying. Another place I like is relatively new. The Kind Ones have many amazing breakfast sandwiches from one that is a shakshuka in a sandwich to one with condiments like Sriracha sauce. One of my favorites is their Sunflower Sandwich which has egg, avocado, cheese, their special sauce and sunflower seeds. This sandwich can fit in the palm of your hand and has lightly toasted buns that resemble small bread slices, so you really can’t just eat one! The sunflower seeds add a nice crunchy texture to the egg and avocado. Now I can’t wait for breakfast!

The Perfect Sandwich: Ideally, it would be a Shish Tawook Sandwich. The perfect one doesn’t exist in Kuwait.
Where you can get one: Nowhere. Abou Mer3i closed down, and I have yet to find another replacement. Zaatar W Zeit here does a decent tawook, but it’s not consistent. If we were in Beirut, however, I would recommend 5 places off the top of my head. Let me tell you about the perfect Shish Tawook sandwich, just in case you know of a place that fits the description and you can help a sister out with a recommendation. The chicken is treated perfectly, marinated well, and you can taste the char of the grill on it, or else, what’s the point? The chicken must also be fresh, never frozen. The toumiyeh (garlic paste) is sharp, balanced with a hint of citrus and abundant. Adding mayonnaise is blasphemous. The fries inside said Shish Tawook sandwich are meant to be CRISPY, and never soggy, and the pickles come with a zesty crunch. Most importantly, you must taste everything together with every bite, giving you an insane combo of char-grilled chicken, sharp garlic, crunchy fries, and a refreshing pickle. Anything less than the described sub par, at best.

The Perfect Sandwich: Is made after midnight when you are starving, toasted and is full of melted cheese, crunchy greens and packs a lot of complementary flavor. That makes it both really simple to achieve yet complex to create.
Where you can get one: Roast Beef Sandwich From Gia. Sadly, this one does not meet my first two requirements, but it is quite close. The only thing that would make this even perfect is adding salted chips to it for more crunch and to have it with some freshly squeezed orange juice for an even bigger illusion of healthy eating.
