Step right up, folks, and prepare to be delighted and horrified in equal measure! Staged in Kuwait, leading the country’s theater scene, is presenting its latest Eid production: the cult classic sci-fi musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” hitting the stage on April 10th, 2024. And we can already tell you that we are all in for a special treat!
The story features the whimsically twisted world of Seymour Krelborn, a mild-mannered floral assistant who stumbles upon a peculiar plant he names “Audrey II” after his sweetheart coworker. Little does Seymour know, this seemingly innocent plant has a voracious appetite – not for sunlight and water, but for something much darker. As Audrey II grows and demands to be fed, Seymour finds himself entangled in a Faustian bargain with consequences that are out of this world!
Featuring a stellar lineup of local talent, including Yousef Abdelrehim as the lovable Seymour, Sophie Bray as the enchanting Audrey, Abdulwahab Alqarooni as the quirky Mr. Mushnik, and Khalid Almulla lending his voice to the insatiable Audrey II, this production promises to captivate audiences aged 7 and up.
The roots of this iconic musical sprouted from the minds of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the visionary duo behind Disney classics like “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast.” From its off-Broadway origins to its blockbuster film adaptation, “Little Shop of Horrors” has left an indelible mark on pop culture, inspiring countless parodies and tributes along the way.
So, go ahead, gather your friends and family, and prepare for an evening of laughter, thrills, and killer tunes at Staged in Kuwait’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” You won’t want to miss this horticultural horror show that’s sure to leave you clamoring for an encore!
