The sad news is that the hope of a summer getaway to sandy beaches and azure waters worldwide has been unfortunately cancelled by 2020. The good news is that we found a bunch of ways to make sure we still get some fun in the sun time.
Shalehi
If you don’t own a chalet or know someone who is willing to invite you (once social distancing requirements have been relaxed a bit), you can always rent a place. Not the faraway secluded beach of our dreams but we’re willing to compromise.
Nabat
We always thought that the tiny house movement was cute, but this is genius! Nabat and Lines collaborated on these prefabricated, installed at the location, sun rooms? We’re not even sure what to call them, but we want one!
Recreate arcade vibes at home
If you have the space, PLAY at Home is renting soft play toys, kiddie rides, and arcade video games.
Animal Crossing
If you have ever wanted to own your own private island, you now can with the Nintendo Switch’s Animal Crossing. You might have to do some weeding, but if you level up enough you can terraform your island to your heart’s desire with double waterfalls and heart shaped ponds. If you are craving social interaction, you can invite your friends to your homebase and visit theirs. You can even visit Singapore’s family friendly Sentosa island.
Virtual Travel
Think you can’t scuba dive in the Red Sea? Think again, you totally can with the power of virtual reality. Yes, we know, it is not the same, but maybe you can try using your VR headset in the bathtub for a simulation.
Get the 5-Star treatment
Staying at a hotel is one of the pleasant travel experiences, especially if you can afford to splurge for more stars. Whether you want to go all the way and book a weekend at one of the seaside hotels or just have a nice pool day, it is the perfect way to chill and enjoy some holiday vibes.
Discover local museums
Some of us love travelling to discover different cultures, but we have also discovered that we can learn so much about our own history by visiting local museums. We know they’re not open just yet, but once they do, we will be queuing at the gates and you can always call before you visit to check if they are open and just in case you need to make a reservation.
Host your own private event
Events may bring some PTSD for the majority of us, but if you stick to the guidelines and stay within social distancing guidelines, there is no reason to not enjoy yourself with some company. Invite 2 or 3 friends, hire an event planner off of IG that can drop off supplies and enjoy yourself in your front yard! A great idea is a small picnic, or a game night, themes are a must!
Make a game of it
We have a soft spot for local games and we applaud the designers with a sense of humor who have decided to make a difficult situation fun.
