Embrace the fashionable foodie within: you might deny yourself the goodness that is chocolate for the sake of fashion, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear a piece of chocolate around your neck. Or a mini donut dipped into chocolate-golden glaze and hung on a chain as a necklace. With TADAM!’s beautiful, handmade ceramic jewelry, indulgence is now a possibility. Oh, and it’s calorie free too.
Originating from Lithuania, and now available in Kuwait, the TADAM! line of inspiring eye-candy, aims to celebrate modern society’s fascination with food. Located in the capital city of Vilnius, TADAM!’s jewelry kitchen started handcrafting food jewelry. A line of chocolates, mini donuts and coconut confections, named “The Sweet Course for Your Eyes” was released, which recently won Lithuania’s National GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2013.
“A spin through popular internet sites, TV shows and book stores revealed the world’s obsession with food and cuisine, so we decided to take the concept one step further – by crafting food into jewelry”, – says Deimante Litvinaite, inventor and designer of TADAM! jewelry.
People say that you taste with your eyes, and since jewelry plays a major part in completing your wardrobe, these deliciously handcrafted pieces create the feeling of wonderful taste by visually appealing to dessert lovers. Come on, our passion for all things sweet is one that is universal. Imagine wearing a small delicacy, freshly baked, fresh in texture, but obviously inedible. The mere fact that it looks good enough to eat is an added playful element.
The recipe for these complex sweet treats is not easy. To start off, the form of white clay is “baked” by hand, several times, and then carefully coated with alloys of precious metals that reflect the colors of sweet confections. White or dark chocolate bars are coated with a golden glaze. Perfectly rounded coconut truffles look deceivingly inviting to eat. The result of a lengthy process of experimentation, each piece of jewelry can now be coated in gold or platinum. Based on these meticulous processes, the production of a small ceramic collection can take up to ten days.
Besides the artful production of these little sweets, the actual presentation of the ceramic confections collection is stunning. Packed in a fancy, white octahedron-shaped box. Inside the box the jewelry piece is lying atop soft, shredded paper. A subtle surprise is locked inside the box – the sweet-scented, real dessert flavor. There is also a label on the chain that cheekily reads, “When you wish to have a real feast it is not necessary to chase after goods and foods. Is it a piece of art or just a tasty treat? Let the sparkling eyes decide it. Warning – inedible!”
This autumn TADAM! design jewelry will be exhibiting in Maison & Objet in Paris taking place Sept 6 – 10th.
