On August 4th, a major blast struck our beloved Beirut causing thousands of injuries and over a hundred deaths. As citizens of the world, our hearts beat as one and everyone was affected by the news. To support the people and city of Beirut, talabat pledged to donate 100% of all the profits made from orders during #LunchforLebanon on August 12th, 2020.
During this period, talabat users all over the MENA region placed orders knowing all profits were going to be donated to Lebanon in efforts to restore the damage. In a span of only four short hours (between 12 – 4pm), 115,000 orders were placed. This is such a compassionate gesture, and we are so proud of the region’s leading food delivery and grocery app to have been one of the first to act so swiftly and deliver financial aid.
In addition to the donations which came from us the people, talabat generously donated an additional 130,000 euros to the people of Lebanon. Solidarity at its finest and a reminder that we are never truly alone. All donations were sent to Lebanon through the Kuwait Red Crescent Society.
Talabat also had a few words to everybody who supported the cause thanking them for being the reason behind the sizable donation in which they stated “talabat would like to express its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all its customers…who supported the people of Lebanon, through ordering #LunchforLebanon on August 12. During this period, talabat users placed over 115,000 orders region-wide.”
In a similar statement also by talabat, Tomaso Rodriguez, CEO, disclosed that “the employees of talabat feel humbled to [have been able to] facilitate #LunchforLebanon, as well as the additional 130,000 euros donation.”
The idea behind #LunchforLebanon was to provide an accessible way for people to donate to the cause. And since ordering with talabat is as easy as 1-2-3 and a daily occurrence for many people, this was the perfect way to do it. It was truly amazing to see talabat customers and restaurants all across the region stand united for a shared purpose and support the people of Beirut.
Talabat also shared with bazaar that they were humbled by all the activity happening on social media “the amount of people sharing following the incident that took place, contributed to outstanding awareness of the current situation in Beirut…. our farthest order was placed from Berlin, for a customer in the region, which is truly testament to the love that people have for Lebanon”
