Does everyone remember when we vowed to eat a little healthier last month? I can’t say that we haven’t kept that promise to ourselves, but sometimes, you just need a burger day! Because let’s face it, life is all about balance.
So to kick off our monthly Eats In ventures, we decided to celebrate all our hard work and efforts with a burger. Not just any burger, a burger from The Stack.
What is The Stack, you may ask? A heaven in which any combination of toppings, sauces, protein and cheese is provided to create your ideal burger.
We found this gem on the Carriage delivery app one hungry afternoon, and took turns scrolling downwards enthusiastically to pick dishes to invite to our food party. Caramelized Onion Dip – you look amazing, and you’re invited. Let’s have a wild time with some Wild Fries! But let’s be sure to keep it classy and pace ourselves come burger time.
Oh, and boy was it ever burger time. The majority of the team chose The Stack’s listed creations on the burger menu. We found our receipt adding on names like The Glaze, The Quattro, The Original and The Amigo. Two of us, however, decided to go down a whole other road and play DIY with the Build Your Burger option.
This would be the best time to tell you that I’m the only loser at the office who took last month’s carb-free challenge seriously, and decided to be boring by requesting two patties, grilled mushroom and onions, sandwiched between two crisp pieces of iceberg lettuce to replace a bun. My indulgent colleague, however, lived up to The Stack’s slogan: Layers of Indulgence, and in a literal sense, piled on the toppings to create a monstrous concoction.
What did he get? An angus beef patty with ketchup, mustard, creamy mushroom sauce, the joint’s signature Stack Sauce, mayo, tomato, onion rings, dill pickles, maple glazed bacon and Monterey Jack cheese. Wow.
For good measure, we added some onion rings to the list, (because, onion rings…) placed our order, and waited patiently for our food to arrive.
So, how did it go, dear readers? Let me walk you through it. Our side dish and appetizer choices were beyond fun: the Caramelized Onion dip was all sorts of cheesy and creamy, coupled with baguette rounds for dipping. By the time I’d unwrapped my burger, the plate was already demolished, so it’s safe to say the team was beyond impressed.
And those onion rings: what poetry can we write about those onion rings! If there were an award for the perfect onion ring, The Stack would be on the list of places to review for consideration. Crunchy on the outside and not too onion-y on the inside, and they’re even great sans sauce. No wonder they sneak them into most of their burgers!
While we’re on the topic of burgers, let me tell you about the compilation of burgers consumed. The Quattro was a four-cheese masterpiece, with three types of cheese stuffed into an angus beef patty, topped with cheddar cheese, onion rings, house sauce and sandwiched between a pillow-soft bun. The Original was about as original as you could get, with satisfying ingredients making for great taste: sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, a crispy onion ring, and of course, bacon: because bacon just makes everything better.
We said hola to the Amigo, a fiesta burger containing fresh guacamole, salsa fresca, Monterey jack, jalapeno and chipotle ranch sauce. The Glaze is the most surprising burger of all, made with a tender piece of maple-glazed fried chicken, and topped with rocca salad, melted cheddar and honey mustard. This sandwich was such a nice break from all the burgers going around, and a cheeky bite gave us a preview of our lucky co-worker’s tangy, tantalizing meal.
All in all, this is what we love about The Stack: we love the beautifully spiced patty, which tastes fresh and isn’t too thin or thick, the deliciously soft and buttery brioche bun, and the fact that The Stack’s team really pays attention to your customized burgers. My low-carb, high protein burger came exactly the way I requested it: no bun, no sauce, just two angus beef patties wedged inside a lettuce bun with grilled onions and mushrooms – and mind you, “lettuce buns” aren’t even mentioned on the menu, but I asked for it and boy did I ever receive.
And though healthy and only slightly naughty, it was delicious – but you bet come cheat day I’ll be reordering and creating a monstrosity of my own!
