With baking trays lining the roof and a very minimalistic vibe, The Baking Tray is the local corporate deli. A whimsical egg beater chandelier hangs over a corner table, giving you the feel of a creative representation. As you walk in and take your seat, you notice behind the counter a gigantic blackboard highlighting their menu with each section chalked on in a different color; an entertaining way to order carry-out lunches. For those who choose to dine out, the menu comes in the form of a clipboard so you can flip through it at your own pace. Everything on offer is freshly made to order, and their breads and pastries are baked fresh throughout the day.
Flipping through the menu, I realized that they serve so much more than just sandwiches. Choices of salads, pies, and pastas join their menu in choices that are both very appealing and appetizing. One item though, stood out for me; the Green Burger. The Green Burger is the baking tray’s very own take on a veggie burger, and it truly is a vegan’s salvation. With so many places catering solely to carnivores, The Baking Tray took the leap to cater to those who don’t eat meat; but since I do enjoy dairy, I ordered my burger with cheese. My friend found the Turkey on a Sunflower intriguing and we decided to share mozzarella triangles. Waiting for our order, we were presented a basket-full of freshly baked breads and a dip that can only be described as buttery, with a hint of red and zest.
As our appetizer came to the table, I noticed that it was served in a frying pan. Actually, all their dishes come in serving pans and/or on cutting boards. The mozzarella triangles were golden crispy with the perfect amount of crisp and a surplus of yummy cheese inside. The turkey sandwich, as my friend had put it, was so good that “my mouth cried a little.” As for the burger, I was in shock. Not only is it thick, it was flavorful and made to perfection. After lunch, we each had a cookie for dessert; freshly baked chocolate chip cookies that melted away with every bite. It took a lot of self control not to order more, as they come to you warm, soft, and scrumptious in every way. For birthdays, they make a special order right out of the oven; “big” cookie with frosting made specifically for those who request it.
