There’s nothing better than getting into your car and tackling the open road to your favorite beach spot after a busy workweek. Luckily, living in Kuwait has made that quite easy. After the Thursday afternoon traffic rush, all you have to do is pack-up and get ready to start enjoying your weekend – just get into your car and just drive off to the chalet to get some well-deserved down time by the sea with your loved ones. Everyone knows that you need a good-sized car with ample space and great suspension to get you to your weekend haven comfortably. That’s where the Porsche Cayenne comes in. We took it out for the weekend to see what the buzz is about and were incredibly surprised just how great this sports SUV is.
First, let’s start with the Cayenne’s history as it represents a unique Porsche success story. In 2002 Porsche showcased the first generation of Cayenne models. This sports car, smartly presented in the SUV segment, was an instant hit and quickly became a favorite amongst its consumers. Sales exceeded all expectations and more than 276,000 first generation vehicles rolled off the production line between 2002 and 2010. In 2010, Porsche rolled out the second generation of Cayenne models and more than 303,000 units have been sold.
Since then, the Cayenne has become an icon in the sports SUV category and is continuously evolving to carry on its legacy. Today’s Cayenne has a much sharper design, its more efficient than its ancestors and showcases a higher quality of standard equipment that simply results in one of the best cars on the road. It provides both practicality and comfort while keeping to Porsche’s unmistakable DNA.
For the weekend out of the city, we loaded the Cayenne with almost anything and everything we could possibly need in order to have a truly relaxing time. Driving along Kuwait’s desert road is no smooth ride – and with the Cayenne, we didn’t feel a single bump. The car wasn’t affected by the weekend luggage and beach gear overload because the suspension configuration has been optimized for great comfort without compromising on its dynamic character.
Porsche has given the Cayenne an even sharper look with precise lines and deliberately positioned light-refracting edges. The Bi-Xenon headlights come standard on the basic and S models with the “floating” four-point LED daytime running lights clearly identify the Cayenne as a Porsche at first glance. The Cayenne’s rear has also undergone extensive modifications: The taillights now have a three-dimensional arrangement and – like the LED daytime running lights at the front – the brake lights have a fourpart design and the restyled exhaust tailpipes are now integrated in the lower rear panel. Trust us, all heads turned when we arrived at the chalet in this beauty, and the way the car looked in the evening was simply stunning.
The engine used in the Cayenne base model is the familiar 3.6-litre naturally aspirated engine, delivering 300 hp. This allows the Cayenne to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds– 7.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. That’s 0.2 seconds faster than previous models, and we totally felt it as we drove along the highway— the car felt as though it’s floating along the asphalt, allowing you to be completely at ease with the speed and smoothness of the drive. Like all Cayenne models it benefits from the general efficiency measures such as coasting, Auto Stop/Start function and thermal management. Compared to the previous model, the Cayenne also offers more enhanced standard features with its sports feature. In addition to the eight-speed Tiptronic S with Auto Stop/Start and coasting functions, other features included are the Bi-Xenon main headlights with four-point LED daytime driving lights, the multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle switches and the automatic boot lid.
Beautiful, dynamic and powerful – the Porsche Cayenne promises a smooth, safe ride for you and your family.
