The skies above Kuwait are about to get a whole lot more entertaining. Red Bull Flying Day, the gravity-defying spectacle that brings engineering, imagination, and a healthy dose of chaos together, is landing in Kuwait on the 18th of April.
Set against a vibrant coastal backdrop, Flying Day isn’t about who flies the farthest (although, bragging rights are at stake). It’s about creativity, courage, and celebrating the art of the DIY flying machine. From soapbox-style contraptions to full-on airborne fantasies, these teams are putting their wings to the test—literally. We caught up with three teams preparing to launch their dreams (and possibly themselves) into the air.
What happens when you combine a shopping mall that champions the arts with a group of imaginative minds from across its departments? You get The Promenade Squad, a fearless team preparing to launch their homemade flying machine—affectionately named Alta—into the skies (and probably the sea) for this year’s Red Bull Flying Day in Kuwait.

Their machine? Alta. The name rolls off the tongue with the kind of confidence you need to hurtle off a platform in front of a cheering crowd. As for strategy, the squad keeps it refreshingly simple. “The strategy? Not much of a strategy,” one team member quips. “The strategy is to win.”
Behind the humor is a team that’s genuinely passionate about what they’ve created. “We have a really well-designed aircraft. We’ve got a great team working on it. I think the aircraft is going to do most of the work. My job is just to not completely mess it up.”
Spoken like a true pilot.
To cope with the pre-launch jitters, the team is already doing some mental prep. “I’m getting all the stress and anxiety out now—thinking about how awful it’s going to be—so that on the day of, all the jitters are out and I can focus on winning.”
When asked how far Alta is expected to go, the team’s sense of fun really took off. “I’ve got a friend waiting for me in Boubyan Island to pick me up. If I don’t make it there, send someone to look for me.” Don’t worry—they’re working on getting an AirTag just in case.

But don’t let the jokes fool you—this is a serious crew. “We have an amazing team of very talented people,” another team member shared. “Some are engineers, some are designers, and some are just very creative problem solvers. It’s a lot of us from the office, from a lot of different departments. And we’ve just had fun the whole time.”
At the heart of The Promenade Squad’s flight of fancy is the spirit of collaboration and creativity—values that The Promenade itself proudly champions. Far from being just a shopping mall, The Promenade has become a cultural destination in Kuwait, known for supporting local artists, hosting community events, and creating immersive experiences that go beyond retail.
“It’s a really cool space,” says the team. “It positions The Promenade as more than just a shopping mall—it’s an experience. It’s very local, and it’s very us.”
Whether Alta soars or splashes, the message is clear: creativity, community, and a willingness to laugh at yourself (while possibly soaring toward Boubyan) can take you far—or at least a few feet off a Red Bull platform.
We’ll be cheering for The Promenade Squad as they take to the skies with style, heart, and one very hopeful flight plan. Stay tuned… and maybe pack an extra AirTag, just in case.
The event is open to the public, but you can grab tickets for the event of the year at this link for a more elevated experience. Follow the excitement on @redbullkuwait on Instagram.
