For this month’s bazaar hitlist we are discussing TV! It is undeniably the new golden age of the small screen, with the availability of streaming services everywhere, there are days when we simply cannot close our eyes, and finishing-up one episode after the other while time disappears is completely normal. So, without further ado, here are some of our favorite, yet timeless TV shows.
Name: Hallah Danbouh (Mixed Media Content)
Binge(d): If you know what’s good, you know it’s going to be none-other than The Office!
Why? I have, thus far, rewatched The Office twice, and every day or so, I end up rewatching the clips on YouTube, it’s just THAT good, funny, and Michael Scott is the best character (and boss) that’s ever been created. Watching Jim’s pranks on Dwight never gets old, and the fire drill opening scene remains the greatest opening of The Office I have ever seen, always ends up leaving me in tears, literally. So, if you haven’t watched the show yet, WATCH IT!
Name: Yasmin Gamal (Mixed Media Content)
Binge(d): I just absolutely cannot watch a show twice. There are way too many good shows that I haven’t seen for me to see the same thing again. That said, I am guilty of binge-watching things I find interesting. My most recent favorite binge was Netflix’s Taco Chronicles.
Why? All you need to know is Tacos! I just love food travel shows. You get to learn more about a culture through its food. I thought that tacos were all the same, but the fillings were different, turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Name: Ahmed Al-Ashab (Graphic Designer)
Binge(d): Game of Thrones, 1st two seasons.
Why? I liked the idea that a whole world was created for this show. I was intrigued by the fact that there are dragons and zombies ‘white walkers’ and giants. The next greatest thing I watched since Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
Name: Umika Pidaparthy (Online Producer)
Binge(d): Brooklyn Nine-Nine (NINE-NINE!)
Why? What’s not to love about this show! Brooklyn Nine-Nine combines my two favorite TV genres – procedurals and comedy. It has a great cast from awkward-funny Andy Samberg, to the multi-talented Terry Crews, to strong female leads Melissa Fumero and Stephanie Beatriz…I love each and every character (Joe Lo Truglio’s Charles Boyle is my spirit animal)! Not to mention they got a serious drama actor like Andre Braugher to shine as a comedian.
Every joke has me in stitches and I love how every season they deal with real-life issues. This show maintains the perfect balance of being a cop show without overly portraying all police officers as down-to-earth do-gooders. Aaand it’s diverse with actors/characters from all walks of life! I’ve honestly lost track of the number of times I’ve circled through all the seasons (thank you Netflix). No doubt, no doubt, no doubt this is my binge go-to!
Name: Jennifer Cádiz (Mixed Media Solutions)
Binge(d): Dr Phil.
Why? There isn’t a series I watch over and over again, but I do have a guilty pleasure which is watching the hundreds of Dr Phil episodes which have been filmed over the last seventeen seasons. Who can argue with the sheer entertainment value of Dr Phil stating, “this ain’t my first rodeo” or coming up with gems like, “You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge”, “no matter how flat you make a pancake it’s got two sides”, “That’s five minutes of my life I can’t get back”, “If they do it with you, they’ll do it to you”, “Somewhere there’s a village missing its idiot”, and “How’s that working for ya?” It has also made me think twice about where I put “but” in a sentence, because it really does mean, “ignore everything I just said, here’s how I really feel”. Genius.
